After dinner, Harry, Ron, and Hermione walked with you back to the Gryffindor common room. Ron thanked you again for the sweets before heading off to the boys' dormitories with Harry. Hermione started down the hall but paused, glancing back. "Aren't you coming?"
"I'll be there soon. Just need to grab a book from the library," you replied.
She yawned, nodding. "Alright, just don't stay too long."
In truth, you needed a moment alone to process everything: the time you'd spent with Cedric only for him to wrap his arm around Cho like it meant nothing, and Malfoy's piercing gaze during dinner.
The library was nearly empty, its usual quiet even more pronounced. You found an empty table near the fireplace and took a seat, the warmth from the fire wrapping around you. You tried to lose yourself in the comforting silence, but your attention drifted to a couple seated nearby, their soft laughter grating against your nerves. They made it all look so easy, so natural. They leaned in close, their heads tilted together as if no one else in the world existed. You felt a pang of jealousy watching them, wondering why things couldn't be that simple for you.
Thoughts of Cedric crept into your mind, bringing with them a swell of frustration and doubt. Had he genuinely wanted to spend time with you today, or was it only because of Malfoy? And why did you feel so torn over it, so guilty?
Just then, a strong arm wrapped around yours, pulling you up from your seat with surprising force.
Draco wore a look of irritation as he led you out of the library and into the corridor.
"Where are we going? Can you please slow down?" you protested, trying to keep up.
"We need to talk," he replied curtly, not breaking stride.
Ignoring your attempts to slow him down, he continued pulling you along until you reached his dorm. He shut the door behind you with a sharp swing and turned to face you, his expression unreadable.
"Would you mind explaining why we're here?" you asked, folding your arms.
"Don't play innocent, Y/F/N. You know exactly what this is about."
"Actually, I don't," you replied, meeting his gaze stubbornly.
"I'm not clueless. I saw you walk into the Great Hall, and then Diggory right behind you. So, where were you two?"
Even without Draco's accusation, a strange sense of guilt had already settled over you. You couldn't entirely explain why.
"We just went to Hogsmeade," you replied.
"'Just went to Hogsmeade?'" he repeated mockingly, arms crossed. "And what exactly happened?"
"Nothing," you said firmly, crossing your own arms. "He just showed me around."
Draco scoffed.
"Why do you care, anyway?"
"I don't care!" he snapped, his tone defensive. "You're just being reckless. Other students could've seen you with him. You know how that makes me look?"
"Fine. I get it. I'm sorry," you said, reaching for the door.
But Draco pulled you back to face to him. His expression was stern, but there was a flicker of something more vulnerable underneath, something you weren't sure you were meant to see.
"You're not just going to walk away like that." he said loudly.
You sighed, frustration rising. "What do you want from me, Draco? I told you, nothing happened."
