To your surprise, the Gryffindor students were warm and welcoming. They seemed genuinely interested in your reasons for transferring. Many were eager to learn more about Beauxbatons and had you explain in detail about the campus. A couple of students led you to the Gryffindor common room. "The password is Wattlebird, but it changes constantly, so make sure to stay in the loop," a brown-haired girl said with a smile.
You quickly examined her, trying to unravel the layers of her character, but failed. Her warm brown eyes were comforting, so you went with it. "Thank you," you smiled back.
"I'm Hermione Granger, a fellow seventh-year. I'd be glad to show you around the common room and your dormitory."
"I'd really appreciate that!"
Her tour was, admittedly, a bit lengthy, but it was impressively thorough. Your final stop was your dorm, where she helped you settle in. You thanked her for the help, but to your surprise, she took a seat at the foot of your bed.
"I'm really curious—what was Beauxbatons like?" she asked.
"Beauxbatons was absolutely beautiful, with its grand chateau and enchanting landscape! I think I miss the uniforms the most though" you chuckled. "I will admit, the atmosphere was much more relaxed compared to Hogwarts. It's definitely an adjustment, but I don't mind it. I actually grew up in Devon, so this area isn't too unfamiliar."
"Merlin's beard! My friend—well, actually, my boyfriend—grew up and still lives in Devon!" she exclaimed, quickly correcting herself. "His name is Ron Weasley. Does that name ring any bells?"
You couldn't help but chuckle at her slip-up. She seemed to blush a little when calling this Ron character her boyfriend. "Sorry to disappoint, but no. Though I do know a Cedric Diggory—we lived nearby when I was there."
"Oh, wow! Practically everyone here knows Cedric Diggory," she laughed. "The Hogwarts Champion himself."
"The what?" you asked, puzzled.
"You're joking, right? Last year, Hogwarts hosted the Triwizard Tournament for the first time in ages. Students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons came to compete in various challenges. Anyway, Cedric volunteered to represent Hogwarts and won! How could you not have heard? It involved your school... and your friend..."
You felt a bit embarrassed. You remembered hearing some talk last year about a trip to Hogwarts, but you'd ignored anything related to Cedric. "Well, Cedric and I lost touch after I moved away," you replied with a nervous chuckle.
"Oh, then I'm sure he'd be thrilled to see you again!" she said with a warm smile.
You chatted for a while longer, and by the end of it, you felt like you knew Ron's entire life story. You guessed they must have just started dating, considering he was all she could talk about. Still, talking with her felt natural, and it was comforting to know you'd already made your first friend.
