As your eyes fluttered open, there he was, sound asleep beneath you. His arms held you firmly, your head resting on his chest. "Draco," you murmured softly, but there was no response. Noticing your scattered clothes strewn across the floor, you carefully untangled yourself from his grasp, doing your best not to wake him.

In the bathroom, you stared at your reflection, trying to make sense of the previous night. It felt surreal—reckless, impulsive, and entirely stupid—but at the same time, it had felt undeniably right.

When you opened the door, Draco was no longer asleep. He was fastening the buttons on his shirt, his hand brushing through his messy hair. His gaze flicked briefly to you before darting away.

Draco was the first to break the awkward silence, keeping his tone light. "Well," he muttered, staring at the ceiling, "guess things got a bit... out of hand."

You let out a nervous laugh, the weight of his words sinking in. "Yeah, just... a heat-of-the-moment kind of thing," you replied, though uncertainty crept into your voice.

He caught a glimpse of you before turning away again, feeling a pang in his chest he couldn't quite ignore. "It didn't mean anything," he continued, keeping his voice casual, almost detached. "We're both just... playing our parts."

It didn't mean anything?

You nodded quickly, forcing an awkward smile. "Exactly. Just playing our parts"

"I'll see you later for the second task?"

"Yeah, the second task... of course!" you replied. "I'll, uh, meet you in the courtyard."

He gave a faint smile, though the weight of unspoken words hung heavy between you. You gathered the rest of your belongings, and with one last thin smile, you slipped out the door.

"You're coming, right?" Hermione asked, leaning forward slightly.

"Y/N? Hello?" she pressed, waving a hand in front of your face.

"Oh, of course. I'll be there," you said, snapping back into the conversation. You hadn't even realized you'd been zoning out, your gaze locked on the two sausages lying uneaten on your plate.

"Merlin's beard, you're completely out of it today," Ron laughed, shoving another piece of toast into his mouth.

"Yeah," Hermione chimed in, "You didn't come back to the dorms last night."

Your mind scrambled for a plausible excuse, and you forced a nervous chuckle. "I, uh, fell asleep in the library," you lied. "I guess I've been overdoing it with the studying."

Harry gestured at your untouched plate. "Well, just make sure to eat something. You'll need the energy."

You forced a smile and took a bite of your food. As the trio dove into yet another debate about the second task, your thoughts drifted to familiar territory. Over and over, you reassured yourself that last night had been a mistake. It was just part of the fake relationship—only two more months to go. By then, you'd either be back with Diggory or completely over him. At least, that's what you kept telling yourself.

The courtyard buzzed with activity as you arrived, scanning the crowd until your eyes landed on Malfoy. He approached with his usual air of confidence.

"Ready?" he asked, casually taking your bag from your shoulder.

You nodded, silently relieved that he seemed to have moved on from the events of last night.

"Didn't you say the second task was at the Black Lake last year?" you asked, falling into step beside him.

"Yeah, I did. Strange they'd use the same location."

As you walked, the two of you speculated about what challenges might await the champions this time. Before long, you found yourselves in the Slytherin section, Draco making sure you both had the best seats.

Dumbledore stepped up to the podium, and the murmurs of the crowd faded into silence.

"Now, I'm sure you're all eager to discover the nature of the second task," he began, his voice resonating over the gathered students. "Your champions must venture beneath the surface of the Black Lake to retrieve pearls hidden along its seafloor. But beware—this will not be a simple feat. The Sirens' song awaits, luring those who are unprepared into its treacherous embrace..."

The crowd erupted into cheers as Cedric, Luka, and Lucille took to their positions.

You nudged Malfoy, "The Siren's song?"

"Yeah, a type of mer-folk. Their songs are dangerous. Make you lose all sense of direction" he paused. "I wouldn't head to his rescue this time around"

The sound of the cannon blasted through the air, signaling the start of the challenge. The three champions plunged into the water, disappearing beneath the surface. All you could do now was wait—and, in your case, pray that they would resurface again.

Cedric raced towards the sea floor with his wand in hand, illuminating his surroundings. The sound of the sirens were overwhelming, yet completely intoxicating. The haunting melody of the sirens filled the water, a seductive, overwhelming force. Luckily, Cedric was quick to cast the Muffliato charm, drowning out the song with a buzzing noise in his ears. It was irritating, but it worked to keep the sirens' call at bay

Luka's movements soon grew sluggish as the sirens' song took hold of him. His mind seemed to unravel, losing all sense of purpose. The pearls, the task — they were no longer a priority. He drifted aimlessly through the water, completely oblivious to his surroundings. His body moved of its own accord, drawn irresistibly towards the call of the mer-folk.

Lucille, however, had cast a protective bubble charm around her head. The enchanted air inside allowed her to breathe, while also serving as a shield against the song of the sirens. She glided through the water with ease, not far behind Cedric, who had already reached the sea floor.

Cedric quickly located the pearls, his voice cutting through the water as he shouted, "Accio!" The pearls flew into his grasp, and with a swift flick of his wand, he began his ascent toward the surface. Lucille, who had almost reached the bottom herself, hesitated when she saw Luka still drifting aimlessly, clearly disoriented and under the full effect of the sirens' song. She ignored the task at hand, and swam for him instead. Lucille grabbed him by the arm, and started pulling him back towards the surface, no pearls in hand.

You were on your feet, cheering as Cedric shot back up from the water, the crowd erupting around you. As you turned to see Malfoy's displeased expression, you chose to ignore it, focusing instead on the moment. Lucille surfaced shortly after, Luka clutched tightly in her arms.

"Cedric Diggory takes first place for task two!" Dumbledore's voice boomed.

Just then, Cho rushed to the platform, throwing herself into Cedric's arms. He embraced her, pulling her in for a kiss, and the sight made your applause falter. Slowly, you sank back into your seat, your earlier excitement dwindling. Draco glanced at you, his expression uncertain, as though he might speak up. But before he could open his mouth, you cut him off.

"I'm fine," you muttered, turning your attention back to the arena, trying to ignore the hollow feeling in your chest.
