Ethan

Connor's been away for two months now. The first month I couldn't see or call him. They had him under some serious supervision. Last weekend was his first weekend with allowed visitors. I was supposed to go, but something came up.

And I was supposed to go tonight.

But Remi came in with an update that means I have to stay.

While everythings been going on with Connor, apparently something big has been brewing.

The mom who fought to get her kids to safety, and blessed us with Zach and Ana, her pack has been causing some issues. I guess a lot of wolves are claiming asylum here. They're terrified of the pack they came from, but no one is really telling us why.

A lot of them are pretty beat up, so our clinic has been so busy. I have to call Connor and let him know I can't come see him right now, and I don't know when I can step away for a weekend. I can't even step away for an hour.

"They're pretty bad, E. Max and I are doing what we can but we need you there- soon" Remi stresses.

While I've been away and dealing with everything Remi has taken over. He met his own mate a bit ago and they bicker a lot, and don't seem to get along that well, but they're putting it aside for the pack.

That's what Remi said anyways.

Max always has a dopey smile and looks like he could melt at Remi's feet.

"Let me call him. To tell him"

"I'm sorry. If we could do it without you I would. I want you there with him too" Remi says, and I know he means it. I nod, and Remi leaves.

I take a deep breath, then dial the number to the Southeast Inn.

"Hi, Southeast Personal Care, how can I help you?"

I recognized the voice right away. "Hey Emma. It's Ethan. Can I talk to Connor?"

"Uh yeah! He uh" her voice lowers into a whisper "He's had a really bad day. Are you on your way?"

"Can I talk to him Emma? Sorry. I just need to talk to him. "I take a shaky breath, and I hear her say his name, and I hear some soft mumbling before I hear a soft-.

"Ethan?"

"Pretty Boy" all the air leaves my lungs. His voice is raspy, like he's been crying or screaming, and it's soft and gentle. Like he's tired. "How are you?"

"I'm not having the best day, but that's to be expected." he murmurs, and sniffles. "Have you left yet?"

"I'm sorry-"

"You can't?"

"Things here have been really hectic"

"I'm sorry to add on to it" his voice is soft and meek.

"No baby, you're fine. You focus on getting better. I just- I just don't know when I'll be able to come. I can't leave them here for a weekend. Remi is getting burnt out, and things are getting more intense. I'm so sorry Connor but I don't think I can come for a while. "I let it all out, and a heavy sigh with it.

Connor doesn't say anything for a few minutes, and I'm letting him process it all. "We can still call, right?"

"Yeah. Of course"

"We'll be okay, E. I'm doing the program, and if you can't come, that doesn't stop me from being here. I know I'm a mess right now, I know I'm fragile. But I put my pack above anything, and I want you guys to help them. Don't worry about me"

"What about us? Are you still going to want that? Me?"

He goes quiet again, and I feel my heart beat kick up, and whooshing in my ears. Through all of this, my feelings haven't wavered in the slightest. They're stronger. Because I can see how strong Connor is.

"If anyone has to worry about that, shouldn't it be me? I'm the crazy one"

"You're not crazy"

"You should hear the terms they say in my sessions. You'd think i'm crazy then"

"So? Will you?"

"I want you. I want those kids. Our fur babies. I want it all. I just need time, and if you can give it to me, I want this. But while i'm away, if you need another-"

"Don't go there. I would never do that" I grunt, and run my fingers through my hair. "I'll come as soon as i can, i promise"

"I know. How are you?"

"I guess better. I'm handling things now, and I went to the gym today. Also got my dad to prepare some meals for me. So I've been eating more too. I'm gonna get a protein shake when i head to meet Rem"

"I'm glad you're getting better"

"I won't be whole until you're back here by my side"

"Me either" I feel the truth in his words. I hope he hears them in mine.

I microwaved some food, and am eating it out of the container as I walked through the pack house to find Remi.

I find him in the living room, standing with Max. Max is a bit taller than Rem, not by much but a couple inches. But he's at least double his size. He has crazy muscles, and I guess it's because he was training to work the border.

Max has his usual dopey smile, and Remi is shaking his head and rolling his eyes. "Can you drive? I'm eating "I hold up my container, and Remi nods.

"Yeah, come on" he grumbles, and storms off. Max and I are on his heels, and following him to his car. "Dad and Uncle Bran are at the border with the families. Uncle Noah is at the daycare dropping off the kids."

"Wait Knox or Xan are with pop?" my brows scrunch. Xan use to be daddy when Remi and Rhys were younger, but now they're both called dad.

"Xan. Dad is freaking out and speeding there- don't worry"

Xan isn't the best at defending himself so leaving him alone at the border is scary, but pop is there.

I eat my food in the backseat because even though I'm alpha I'm not going to be a weirdo and make his mate sit in the back.

I finish just in time, and we get to the border. There's at least ten families, with a lot of kids. I glance at Remi.

"This makes probably 30 in the past two weeks E. It's bad. We don't have space for them."

"We won't deny them"

"Absolutely not. But we need to come up with a plan for housing these people. We can't ask everyone to open up their homes to strangers." Remi says. Which I know.

"For now, all the singles in the pack house are to be moved into other family suites with extra bedrooms. Only mix our pack with our pack. Try to keep all outsiders separated until detailed background checks are done. I'll start a plan for adding onto our pack "I chew the inside of my cheek.

Remi gets out a pad and paper and starts writing stuff down. "What about the families we have already mixed with our pack?"

"Do they have checks done?"

"No"

"Move them out immediately. We don't know them. We protect them, and keep them safe but we don't trust them yet. This could all be some ploy to get enemies into our territory, or it can be the start of a very, very long war" I run my fingers through my hair shaking my head. "Lets go"
