THE DAYS FOLLOWING HER CONFRONTATION WITH HER MOTHER FELT LIKE A BLUR diana was caught between the heavy weight of her royal duties and the pull of her heart, which was increasingly drawn toward felix. the palace was as cold and quiet as ever, its marble halls echoing with the sounds of her footsteps as she moved from one duty to the next. but despite the outward composure she tried to maintain, her mind was elsewhere.

she couldn't stop thinking about the argument with her mother. her words had stung, but there was a quiet strength in her that had risen up in defiance. it wasn't just about felix anymore. it was about her future, her independence, and the life she wanted to create for herself. for the first time in years, she felt like she was truly beginning to take control of her own destiny.

but even as she felt empowered, the reality of her position weighed on her. she knew that her actions would have consequences—not just for her, but for the entire royal family. and yet, as the days passed, the more she thought about it, the more she knew that she couldn't go back. she couldn't live a life dictated by tradition and expectation. not when she had a chance at something real.

one evening, after a particularly tense dinner with her family, diana slipped away from the palace for a quiet walk. the air was crisp and the streets were quiet as she made her way toward the gardens, her thoughts clouded with worry and longing. she had barely taken a few steps into the garden when she heard the sound of someone approaching.

her heart skipped a beat, and she turned to find felix standing there, his familiar smile lighting up his face despite the distance between them. his presence was a comfort, a reminder of the warmth and freedom she felt when they were together.

"felix," diana whispered, a sense of relief washing over her. "you shouldn't be here. someone might see you."

"i couldn't stay away," he replied softly, stepping closer to her. "i needed to see you."

"but... it's dangerous. we can't keep doing this. my family—my mother... she doesn't understand."

felix's expression softened, and he reached for her hand, his touch warm against her skin. "diana, i don't care about the danger. i care about you. about us. we'll figure it out, together."

diana looked into his eyes, her heart torn between her royal duties and the love she felt for him. "i don't know how much longer we can keep this secret," she said, her voice trembling. "the pressure from my family is unbearable. they want me to marry someone of their choosing, someone who fits the mold. but it's not what i want. it's not who i am."

"i know," felix said, his voice firm with conviction. "and i want you to know, diana, that whatever happens, i'm here. we'll face whatever comes, side by side. i'll support you, no matter what."

tears welled in diana's eyes as she looked at him. she had never felt so understood, so seen, as she did in that moment. for the first time in her life, she didn't feel like a pawn in someone else's game. with felix, she felt like she was truly free.

"thank you," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "i don't know what i would do without you."

"you don't have to worry about that," felix replied softly, gently cupping her face with his hand. "i'm not going anywhere."

diana closed her eyes, leaning into his touch, and for a moment, the world outside the garden seemed to disappear. it was just the two of them, lost in their own bubble of happiness and hope. the world may have been pressing down on them, but in that moment, they had each other.

"promise me something, felix," diana said, her voice full of quiet emotion. "promise me that no matter what happens, you won't give up on us. i can't lose you."

felix's gaze softened, his thumb brushing gently across her cheek. "i promise, annie. i'll never give up on you. on us. we'll find a way."

as they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, diana felt a glimmer of hope. she didn't know what the future held, or how things would play out with her family, but in that moment, she knew one thing for certain: she couldn't let go of felix. not now, not ever.
