THE DAYS FOLLOWING THE STATE DINNER PASSED IN A BLUR FOR DIANA. every moment felt like a performance, every smile forced, every word carefully chosen. the palace buzzed with talk of the future, with political meetings and royal engagements that she was expected to attend. yet, her mind was never fully in it. it always wandered back to the quiet moments she shared with felix, his kindness and sincerity standing in stark contrast to the rigid expectations of her royal life.

that afternoon, as diana sat in her study, attempting to sort through the endless paperwork that accompanied her royal duties, she felt the weight of her responsibilities more than ever. she glanced at the clock, her thoughts drifting back to felix, and the secret messages they had exchanged over the past week. their letters had become a lifeline for her—small pieces of comfort in a world that felt suffocating.

diana picked up the latest letter he had sent, a simple note with only a few lines of writing, but they meant the world to her. she read it again:

"i'm always thinking of you, diana. i know it's difficult, but please, don't give up. the world might be waiting for you to follow a script, but there's more to your story than they'll ever understand. i'm here. always."

she tucked the letter carefully into her pocket just as a knock echoed through the door.

"come in," she called, quickly standing and smoothing her dress as her lady-in-waiting, helena, entered.

"your highness, there's a visitor in the palace," helena said with a slight hesitation. "a man who requests to speak with you."

diana raised an eyebrow. "who is it?"

"he's... he says he's an old friend of the family. a foreign diplomat, from korea. i believe he's here for a private audience with you."

diana felt her heart skip a beat. it was the most unusual request, and something about it felt... different. it was as though something, or someone, was pulling her toward this moment. she nodded, her curiosity piqued. "send him in."

within moments, a man stepped into the room—a figure with soft, dark hair and an easy smile that seemed familiar despite the formalities. diana's breath caught in her throat as recognition dawned on her.

"felix?" she whispered, barely able to contain her surprise.

"hello, annie," felix said softly, his voice filled with warmth and something else she couldn't quite place—tenderness, perhaps, or longing. his eyes held hers for a moment, and in that brief exchange, everything else in the world faded away.

"what are you doing here?" diana asked, her voice a mix of disbelief and relief. she quickly crossed the room, unable to keep the distance any longer. "how did you...?"

felix's smile grew, and he stepped forward, lowering his voice. "i couldn't stay away, diana. i had to see you. i know how dangerous it is for both of us, but i couldn't just let this—let us—fade away. i had to find a way."

her heart raced at his words, but her mind was still processing the fact that he was standing there in front of her. this wasn't supposed to be possible. the palace was supposed to be impenetrable, its walls too high, its security too tight. and yet, here he was.

"but... you're risking everything," she whispered, stepping closer, her hand almost reaching for his but hesitating. "if anyone finds out you're here..."

"i know," felix said, his voice steady. "but i couldn't bear the thought of not seeing you. not after everything we've shared."

diana's chest tightened with emotion. she could hardly believe he was here, that he had come all this way just to see her. "but what about your... your group? your life?"

felix shook his head, stepping even closer. "my life, my future—it's nothing without you. i can't just go on pretending that this isn't real."

her eyes filled with tears, though she blinked them away quickly. she didn't want him to see her vulnerability, not like this. she had always been so careful to keep her emotions in check, but with felix, everything felt different. everything felt... right.

"i don't know what to do," she admitted softly. "i feel like i'm trapped, felix. the royal family, my duties—they won't let me live my own life. i don't know how to escape."

felix reached out and gently cupped her face, his thumb brushing over her cheek. "you don't have to escape. not if you don't want to. we can find a way. together."

the words hung in the air between them, heavy with possibility. diana's heart beat faster, her thoughts swirling in a whirlwind of emotions. for the first time in what felt like forever, she felt hope. true hope. not for the future that her family had planned for her, but for the future she could create on her own terms.

she took a shaky breath, her hand finally reaching for his. "you're willing to risk everything for me?"

felix smiled, his eyes soft but determined. "for you, i would risk anything."

just then, the sound of footsteps echoed in the hallway outside the room, and diana quickly pulled away from him, her pulse racing. felix's gaze flickered toward the door, and diana's heart skipped a beat. someone was coming.

"you need to go," she whispered urgently, her voice trembling. "now. before anyone sees you."

felix nodded, his eyes filled with understanding. "i'll go. but i'll find a way to see you again. i promise."

as he turned to leave, diana's hand shot out, grabbing his sleeve. "be careful," she said softly, her voice shaking. "please. i don't want you to get hurt because of me."

"i'll be fine," he said, giving her one last lingering look before slipping out of the room.

diana stood frozen for a moment, her heart still racing from the brief encounter. she knew that what they had done was dangerous, that the risks were immense. but in that moment, all she could think about was how alive she felt with him.

and she couldn't bring herself to regret it.
