The Water Kingdom is a reclusive and formidable realm that has evaded the notice of its neighbors for decades. Nestled in a labyrinth of rivers, lakes, and marshes, the kingdom is renowned for its exceptional defensive capabilities, which have allowed it to maintain its distinctive culture and sovereignty untouched by outside influence.
The Water Kingdom's mastery of aquatic warfare and hydraulic engineering is unparalleled, with armies trained from birth to navigate the waterways and employ specialized naval tactics. Its intricate system of dams, floodgates, and irrigation also provide layered defenses that have repelled numerous attempted invasions.
Beyond its martial prowess, the Water Kingdom is celebrated for its exceptional medical knowledge and practices, with physicians widely regarded as the most skilled in the known world. Their innovative treatments, drawn from rare medicinal herbs and marine resources, are highly sought after by neighboring realms.
In terms of size, the Water Kingdom ranks as the third largest kingdom by landmass, trailing only the Stone Kingdom and Fire Kingdom. This vast territory, largely covered in waterways and swampland, has allowed the kingdom to maintain a high degree of self-sufficiency and independence.
The Water Kingdom is divided into four main regions:
Water City:
Water City is situated in the central region of the Water Kingdom, built on an island surrounded by a large body of water. At the heart of the city stands the royal castle, accessible only by bridges or boats. The rest of the city is built up around this central island, with residential and commercial districts extending outwards. The buildings in Water City are constructed with water-resistant materials, and many have docks or canals running through them, facilitating transportation by boat.
Serpent Region:
The Serpent Region is located in the southern part of the Water Kingdom. This region is known for its dense forests and rivers, which are home to large serpentine creatures that the local people revere. While there are settlements scattered throughout the Serpent Region, much of it remains relatively untamed wilderness. The people in this region have developed unique methods for coexisting with the serpents and utilizing the natural resources of the forests and waterways.
Flower Region:
The Flower Region is situated in the northern part of the Water Kingdom. This area is characterized by lush meadows and gardens filled with a wide variety of vibrant flowers. The renowned Butterfly Mansion medical facility is located here. The Flower Region is seen as a place of healing and restoration, with the abundant flowers being used to create remedies and treatments. Smaller villages and agricultural communities are dotted throughout this verdant landscape.
The King of the Water Kingdom is Giyuu Tomioka, who assumed the throne at the young age of 16 after his sister's murder on the eve of her wedding. Giyuu's trusted adviser and best friends since childhood is Sabito Urokodaki - adopted son of Giyuu's trainer Sakonji Urokodaki who has an adoptive sister named Mamoko who words at the castle. The leaders of the respective regions are Obanai Iguro (Serpent Region) and Kanae Kocho (Flower Region), with Shinobu Kocho heading the Butterfly Mansion. Among the staff at the Butterfly Mansion are Kanao Tsuyuri, Aoi Kanzaki, Sumi Nakahara, Kiyo Terauchi, and Naho Takada.

When Giyuu became king, it was after the assassination of Kyogo, Sanemi's father, which meant Kyogo and his family were invited to the ceremony. This was also the day Giyuu fell in love with Sanemi. It happened when Sanemi got separated from his family upon arriving at Giyuu's palace. He wandered into the garden, where he saw some royal dogs of the Water Palace. Before the ceremony, Giyuu had decided to take a walk in the garden after Sabito convinced him to get some fresh air and relax. There, he saw Sanemi and recognized him as Prince Sanemi from the Wind Kingdom. When Giyuu approached, Sanemi didn't recognize him, so he acted somewhat rude and dismissive, but Giyuu didn't reveal his identity and left shortly after without introducing himself. Of course, Giyuu didn't approach with kind words; he simply said something like, "What are you doing here? A prince like you, playing with such dirty animals?" which, of course, angered Sanemi. But when Sanemi saw Giyuu being crowned at the ceremony, his jaw dropped, and he feared he'd be in trouble when Giyuu spoke with his parents at the ball afterward. Fortunately, Giyuu didn't mention anything when Sanemi's parents introduced Sanemi to him.
