Four leads the group of Dauntless initiates through the dusty terrain, their footsteps echoing on the cracked earth. They approach the tall, looming fence that surrounds the city, its metal bars stretching high into the hazy sky. Ollie follows, her gaze thoughtful, her mind wandering far beyond the fence. "As Dauntless, we fight to protect every life inside the fence, without fail. That's why we train you the way we do. To teach you not to give up. And to find out who has what it takes."
Ollie glances out, squinting past the fence, her thoughts drifting to home, to Britain, and just how far away it feels. The memories of rolling hills, old stone buildings, and familiar faces flicker in her mind, almost painful in their distance. This world feels so foreign, and the barrier before her only emphasizes that vast space between where she is and where she once belonged. "Even though it's been quiet out there for years, that could change at any moment. So we have to be ready for everything."
"What's out there?" Will asked from beside Ollie. "Monsters." Christina smirked and leaned towards him. "Amity farms." Al voiced from beside them. "No, I know. But beyond that?" Will continues. Four's eyes grow darker as he glances out past the fence, his expression unreadable. "Let's just say they built their fence for a reason." Ollie stares out, her thoughts lingering on that unknown beyond the barrier, her own sense of purpose and belonging blurring in the face of this strange new life she's chosen.
At Hogwarts, the Great Hall buzzed with uneasy whispers as students and staff pondered the ominous unknown beyond the fence, their imaginations painting a chilling picture of what might lurk in the uncharted lands that even Four's guarded words refused to reveal.
The initiates are gathered around the knife-throwing area, tension buzzing in the air as knives clang against the targets. Al, nervous and fumbling, goes to to throw, only for his knife to slip from his grip, clattering pathetically to the ground. Eric comes up behind him, startling the boy. "That was pathetic." Al tries to defend himself. "It slipped." Eric raises an eyebrow and sneers at him. "Well, go get it." Al hesitates, glancing nervously at the other initiates still throwing. "What? While they're throwing?"
Eric smiles cruelly. "Are you afraid?" Al, reluctant to go pick up his knife, turns back to Eric. "Of getting stabbed by an airborne knife? Yeah." Eric doesn't seem happy with this answer when he shouts to get everyone's attention. "Everybody stop!" The room goes silent as Eric strides forward, his eyes locked on Al. "Stand in front of the target." Al freezes, his eyes widening in terror. Ollie, without thinking, starts to defend Al. "Stop. Anyone can stand in front of a target. It doesn't prove anything." Eric's gaze snaps to her, his smirk returning with cruel amusement. "Then it should be easy for you to take his place. Same rules apply."
Lily and James exchange horrified glances, their hearts sinking as they watch Ollie bravely step forward, knowing their daughter is about to stand in front of a target while knives are hurled at her - an act of defiance and danger they never imagined she'd face.
The initiates exchange shocked glances, and even Four raises an eyebrow at her. The initiates murmur, some stifling laughter. Eric motions for her to stand in front of the target, and she strolls over with exaggerated nonchalance, rolling her shoulders. Four takes his position with the knives, his gaze lingering on Ollie. He turns to Eric. "You want me to give her a little trim, Eric?" Eric smirks looking at Ollie. "Yeah, maybe just a little off the top."
Ollie rolls her eyes, but her breathing grows heavier as Four throws the first knife. It lands inches from her shoulder. She doesn't flinch. Eric isn't happy with the way Four is going easy on Ollie. "Closer!" The next knife grazes her arm, drawing a thin line of blood. Ollie winces but doesn't move. Eric seemed happy that his point had been proven and decided to let everyone go. "Points for bravery, stiff. Not as many as you just lost for opening your mouth. We're done for today. Get out." He waves dismissively. The initiates file out, murmuring in shock and awe.
Four approaches Ollie, his expression unreadable. "You all right?" Ollie turn to look at him. "You cut me." Still looking at her with a blank face. "I meant to." Four said. Ollie snickers quietly. "You meant to? That's your idea of bonding?" Four shrugs his shoulders, smirking lightly. "If I wanted to hurt you, I would have." Ollie grins at him playfully. "Great, I'll make you a trophy for that one." Four shakes his head, a hint of a smile breaking through, as Ollie walks off, her confidence intact despite the sting of her injury.
At Hogwarts, the Great hall buzzes with excitement as students replay the scene in their minds, some outright swooning. "Did you see the way Four looked at her? All serious but soft at the same time," a Hufflepuff gushes, while a Ravenclaw mutters about analyzing "the perfect mix of flirt and banter." The Slytherin boys, grudgingly impressed, smirk and make snarky remarks about Four's subtle smirk. Meanwhile, Lily and James watch from the magical projection with bemused expressions. "That's our Ollie," James says proudly, though Lily narrows her eyes. "I don't like how close they're getting," she says, but a smile tugs at her lips as Four's smirk lingers on screen.
