The world snapped into focus with a rush of air and pounding in her chest. Ollie blinked, her breath catching as she realized she was sitting on a terrifyingly thin bridge suspended high above the ground, the dizzying drop making her stomach flip. Across from them loomed another skyscraper, glass walls glittering against the endless void.
Her lips curved into a half-smirk, though her eyes darted nervously to the drop below. Of course.
"Fear of heights," Ollie said, panting slightly. "I'm not surprised. Honestly, we could just jump and get it over with — it's not real."
Four's gaze cut sharply to her. "No. Divergent would jump. Dauntless would get to that building. If you want to pass, if you want to avoid discovery, you have to do everything the way a Dauntless would do it. You have to find some tool, some method to survive."
Ollie groaned, flicking her hair over her shoulder with exaggerated dramatics. "Great. So instead of a fun freefall, I get the death tightrope walk. Perfect."
Still, she stood up, her boots thudding lightly against the narrow beam as the wind whipped past them. Four moved steadily beside her, trying to find his balance, while Ollie muttered under her breath. "If I die in here, I'm haunting you. Permanently. You'll never sleep again."
Step by careful step, they made their way across. The bridge swayed, Ollie's heart hammering as she crouched low, gripping with her hands and crawling forward.
When they finally reached the edge, she scrambled onto the ledge of the building behind Four and pulled herself through the window, breathing hard. She glanced up at Four, her smirk creeping in again despite the adrenaline.
"See? Totally nailed it. Ten out of ten for grace, don't you think?"
Gasps and nervous laughter rippled through Hogwarts, some students clutching their seats in worry while others shook their heads in disbelief at Ollie's sass even in the middle of such a terrifying situation.
Ollie straightened, brushing dust off her knees — only for a heavy door to slide shut behind them with a resounding thud as Four tries to stop it.
The room was a square metal box, cold and featureless. Then, with a groan of gears, the walls began to shift, grinding inward inch by inch.
Four's voice was calm but urgent. "Fear of confinement. You have to find a way of stopping it. What would a Dauntless do?"
Ollie froze for half a second before rolling her eyes dramatically. "Oh, brilliant. From sky-diving to a human-sized tin can. Lovely upgrade."
She scanned the room quickly, her gaze locking on two long nails wedged in the corner of the floor. Snatching them up, she dropped low, her hands shaking only slightly as she shoved the nails beneath the creeping walls, trying to brace them.
"Good!" Four encouraged, his tone clipped but approving.
Ollie glanced up at him, panting. "Yeah, I'm just thrilled to be playing extreme home renovation in a shrinking death box."
Four's voice came again, steady. "Take your time. I'm just enjoying myself in this shrinking box."
The grind of metal slowed, the nails groaning under pressure but holding steady.
The walls shuddered, finally locking in place. The air was still thick with tension, but the pressure eased as the grinding stopped.
Ollie shot him a look, lips twitching into a half-smirk despite the adrenaline still buzzing in her veins. "Glad you're having fun. Personally, I'd rather be anywhere else."
