Act Four: The Aftermath & Farewell
As the sun finally broke through the horizon, casting its soft, warm light over I-Island, the battle-worn heroes of Class 1-A slowly made their way back to their rooms. After a night filled with chaos, destruction, and victory, exhaustion weighed heavily on their shoulders. Each of them had given their all in the fight, and now, it was time to rest.
Despite their triumph, there was an air of quiet solemnity as they returned to their quarters. The battle had taken a toll—physically and emotionally. They had seen first-hand the lengths villains would go to, and though they emerged victorious, the cost was still fresh in their minds.
Everyone, except Izuku and Ochaco, seemed to collapse into their beds, unable to keep their eyes open any longer. But Izuku, even as he stood alone in the hallway, couldn't rest. His thoughts were scattered, his body still humming with adrenaline. He couldn't shake the feeling of unease; his [Inventory] was still locked. After everything they had been through, the mysterious quirk or system that governed his abilities refused to release its hold on him.
His brows furrowed in thought as he replayed the events in his mind. Why now? Why lock him out during such a critical time? The moment gnawed at him, adding another layer of frustration to an already exhausting night.
Meanwhile, David Shield was in bad shape and had been swiftly transported to the island's hospital. His injuries were severe, but not life-threatening, though his spirit was deeply wounded from the guilt and betrayal that weighed on him. Melissa had insisted on accompanying her father to the hospital, determined to watch over him and ensure his safety.
Izuku and Ochaco weren't far behind, though they were barely holding themselves together. Even after everything, they refused to let Melissa shoulder this burden alone. As they stood outside the hospital's entrance, both of them made it clear to Melissa that they would stay by her side.
Izuku: Melissa, "he began, his voice soft but firm", you don't have to do this alone. We'll come with you.
Ochaco nodded in agreement, stepping up beside him.
Ochaco: You've been through so much, Melissa. Let us help.
But Melissa, as stubborn as ever, crossed her arms and shook her head.
Melissa: You two have fought the entire night. You're both exhausted, and you need rest, "she said, her tone unwavering. She looked at them with a determined expression, her eyes softening despite her insistence". I'll handle it from here. My dad needs me, and I'll be fine. You both need to get some sleep. Please.
Izuku and Ochaco exchanged glances, both of them too tired to argue but unwilling to leave her alone. Izuku, in particular, felt a lingering responsibility not only for Melissa's safety but for her well-being. He knew how much her father's condition weighed on her, and the last thing he wanted was for her to go through this without any support.
Still, Melissa's resolve was unshakable. She placed a hand on each of their shoulders, a tired but genuine smile gracing her lips.
Melissa: I appreciate everything you've done tonight, "she continued, her voice softer now". But I'll be okay. I promise. You've both done more than enough. Please... get some rest. I'll update you once my dad's condition stabilizes.
Izuku opened his mouth to protest, but Ochaco gently tugged on his sleeve, shaking her head. She could see the exhaustion in his eyes, even if he didn't want to admit it.
Ochaco: We'll have to give her space, Izuku, "she said softly". She's strong. She'll be okay.
Reluctantly, Izuku nodded. He knew Melissa well enough to understand that there was no convincing her otherwise. She was as determined as he was when it came to protecting the people she cared about.
