'I'm right where you left me' RUN TO HIM #RightWhereYouLeftMe...

Will was writing again. He was bleeding words onto paper faster than his notebooks could be replaced, the skin of his fingers tender from hours spent pressed against strings. He was breathing again—no longer suffocating from the weight of them (past tense), and breathing in the air of them (present tense). It was an important distinction.
Life and death, really. It felt like it anyway, like one more second without his hands clawing chords from chest would leave him asphyxiated on the ground of his parent's studio. He was breathing again.
Barely afloat—it should be acknowledged—but the darkness was less consuming when the stars came out of hiding.
He was listening again too. Or maybe he hadn't been before. It's too hazy with melancholy and memory to be certain. But now, he was listening. Present tense.
'I love you, I'm sorry'
'I was all alone with the love of my life'
'Don't it feel fucked up we're not in love?'
'I'm right where you left me'
He was listening to it all now, as though it were sent on some secret frequency made only for them.
Hedge was satisfied—content to allow Will to essentially leak his own songs when his last email had three new demos attached. In fact, Will had the green light to keep leaking his own music.
"The publicity is good." Hedge had told him, and spouted several statistics to prove as much though Will had already buried himself in lyrics and rhythms once more.
He would have continued anyway, but at least this way he wasn't pissing off his producer. And continue, he did.
He'd sat himself down on a frankly uncomfortable stool in the recording studio for Iris' Channel, a famous YouTube presence and played his latest.
"We were in the backseat
Drunk on something stronger than the drinks in the bar
"I rent a place on Cornelia Street"
I say casually in the car
We were a fresh page on the desk
Filling in the blanks as we go
As if the street lights pointed in an arrowhead
Leading us home"
And he told the story of them. Aching and raw and scabbed over but never healed. He heard Nico's "I'm right where you left me" and he admitted he couldn't go back to the way things were. Not the secrets and the rivalry and the apartment that had practically been theirs together.
