"Since Carlos literally made weapons, he seemed a little bit more suspicious. Dude was jacked and big, but had a soft spot for children. What if the rod, the weapon was made by him? What if he accidentally or purposely sold it to the killer? What if he was the killer?" I go on and on about the doubts which Rachel and I had, while serving them hot pasta. I serve myself some and continue, "Rachel always had that doubt, more than me, so we asked Carlos if we could come by his workshop the next day.
You might think that I'm not as actively participating in the quest, but trust me, the brains were always Rachel. She was the one who kept on thinking. I was just her P.A., I used to just pick up points for her whenever she dropped them. Plus I was the one who took notes of whatever the suspects said. I noted it down in a journal which we both shared, whenever we wanted to brainstorm we'd use it.
So, anyways, we stopped by Carlos' workshop, it was small and cute I guess. It wasn't like a proper building, but it had a lot of weapons alright. We asked him to show us his 'rod' collection. He looked Rachel dead in the eye, for a second I was scared, then he just shot a look at me.
He then proceeded to bring his rod collections. The beauty of his craftsmanship was that all of his weapons had a pattern on it. For instance, all of his rods had the same kind of twirl. Rachel then pulled out a picture of the weapon used for murder. She compared the rods in front of her and then the picture. Since the rod was heated, it had lost its shape but it was kind of clear that the killer had purchased the rod from Carlos.
Rachel looked at him, showed the picture and asked if she recognized the rod, to which he replied that he did and that it was his creation. Rachel then asked him if he knew who he sold it to, but no hope for that. Then she asked him to show his customer register. I looked at her like some confused idiot, because how did she expect a guy who did slightly illegal stuff to show her his logs, moreover he probably didnt have one.
He said he didn't have one. Exactly! Why the hell would he? Rachel just said, 'You don't want me to report you, do you?' with a lot of sass, to which Carlos said, 'Go ahead, I won't hurt you but just remember that you spoiled the life of a man minding his own business, trying to get three meals a day barely. Maybe instead of ruining my life, you could actually find some evidence for Kenny's case and I can thank him or her for that.'
Rachel just stood there and then said, 'Him or her? Now you won't even tell me their sex?'
He just shrugged and said, 'I don't know their sex. Just to help you out I'll tell you that I have a lot of male customers. Again, I never said that I don't have female ones. Plus I'm old, so cut me some slack. I don't remember who bought what.'
Rachel just gave him a fake sweet smile and turned around. She then noticed a small grocery shop on the opposite side of the road. She then walks towards it and notices a camera pointing towards the road.
She went in and talked to the manager for a bit, then we got access into the security room where the footage was waiting for us. We saw the footage and got a copy of it.
Later as we scrolled through it, we noticed that Carlos had about 8 customers that day. Obviously getting other people in trouble right now wasn't our mission, so we didn't pay much attention to them.
The one which caught our eye was a guy dressed in black. A black cap, mask, pant and an expensive looking leather jacket.
Rachel just stared at it for a while, not knowing what to say and I was just looking at her. Hoping she'd break the silence. Then she looks at me with smiling eyes and says, 'We've made some progress I guess,' then she looked away.
I just felt that the whole situation had put a strain on our personal life. Working day and night, it was just tiring. The way she looked at me then, was like her eyes were begging her to get some sleep. So I wanted to help her out and gave her a pill for headache, since she had one and forced her to sleep. That pill was a strong drug, helped you sleep, well I'm quite not sure but every time Rachel took it she would be out like light.
Rachel gave me that pill on the night of the murder because I had a severe headache from being around children a lot, it was Halloween after all. The streets were filled with chaotic children. That pill helped me sleep soundly throughout the night. Rachel didn't take anything since she was a heavy sleeper, the way she snored was so funny, apparently she said that she didn't even notice that a party was going on down the street."
Guy and Henry chuckle as they continue munching the pasta. Henry asks, "You should maybe start a channel, you know, maybe name it AidenCooks. Oh wait, I forgot that you have a job."
I reply, "Honestly, I just put in my 2 weeks notice yesterday. I'm quitting my job, it just felt right. I don't think I want to work on the field anymore. For some reason, it makes me feel sick. It makes me feel like a big part of me is missing. Well it is actually, so I guess thats that."
Guy drops his fork on his plate due to awe, and says, "You're seriously quitting? What! That is insane, what are you going to do in the mean time?" I reply, "Well like Henry said, I could start a channel or wait, I have you both to annoy me to death."
Both of them just laugh and Henry says, "Well that is something I'm sure off. I don't plan to leave you alone anytime soon."
We all have a good laugh. Then all of us get up to put our dishes in the sink. Then I pour them some more water. I ask, "How was the food?" To which Guy replies, "Do we even have to say it?"
I just say, "Well, it makes me happy so yes, tell me my guests."
Henry just smiled and said, "I'm pretty sure you're wife would have loved it even if she wasn't a pasta lover."
I'm stunned by his remark, I guess its better than the phrase 'it was good'. These boys, I swear to god, they're so humble and polite. I just give a little nod and say, "Thanks. How do you feel college life is? Girls? I'm the one who always tells my stories, its your turn now."
Guy just laughs and says, "Dude, you're our damn customer, we're literally trying to public use your story, your wife's story. Obviously you're going to talk about yourself."
I just say, "Hahaha, very funny, now speak."
Henry says, "Well it is good. This semester break, I think I'm using it wisely. And, I have a girlfriend, her name is Ginny. We met in first year of college."
I ask Guy, "Isn't that the time when you both met?" To which Guy replies as Henry mischievously grins and says, "Yeah because he is dating my twin sister." I look at Henry with wide eyes and say, "Oh damn bro, you got yourself a female Guy. So skilled and so proud of you."
Henry starts cracking up and Guy just looks pissed at the both of us and says, "You know how awkward it is to be in the same room, when they're making out? Gross, Henry you're literally kissing me, my sister and I have the same DNA."
"Dude, don't make this more gay than it already is, people mistake us for a couple nowadays. I know that you'd be honoured to be with me, but unfortunately I can't leave your sister alone."
I start laughing so hard and at one point Guy joins us too, we're just having a nice laugh. Sometimes Henry loves pulling Guy's leg, but Guy doesn't take it to his heart. This is why they both work well together as friends.
All of us go to the sofa to talk more.
