"We didn't just stop with your parents, we asked Violet too on what happened that day," I say.
"She said that she went to school and invited her close friends to party she hosted. She also gave Rachel a little cold look and said that Rachel was the one who asked her to live a little, yet she was grounded.
The Violet gave me a 'Get out of here before I smack the both of you' kind of look. We did, but not before asking if Raquel was an invited guest to her party. Violet denied that and said that she just crashed their party. But when they kicked her out, she was still roaming in the front yard of the house. Even when Sasha and Nora went inside to talk to Violet, she remained outside.
This made us think that maybe Raquel saw something.
We thanked them and left to talk to Raquel. I'll give you guys an idea about that lady, she was quite nosy. Never minded her business and was always drunk in daylight. Changed boyfriends like pants and gave everyone trouble on the street.
After leaving The Lopez's house, we immediately went to Raquel's run down place. Honestly I knew that we may get some information from her, but it included a trade. We knew that she wouldn't let anything slip unless
she got something.
We were prepared alright, we got her some special powder. To be honest it was just some kale powder, but Raquel bought the act. She really thought that we were giving her marijuana for free.
We knocked on her door and she answered it. She just slammed the door shut again without a word. The next time I knocked the door, the moment she opened it, I showed her a plastic cover with the powder. She looked at me for a second and asked, 'What do you want? Whatever you need is not here, and why are you showing me marijuana?'
I look at her and say, 'Let us in, we'll tell you everything.' She hesitates for a bit but the temptation to know why we had brought marijuana made it impossible for her to deny entry.
She let us in and we went in slowly, checking out her apartment. It was filled with unwashed dishes, half eaten noodle cups and a lot of dust. As if someone actually abandoned the house.
It was almost not humanely possible to not gag at that horrible smell and small cockroaches. Rachel immediately steped out of the house and said, 'My house in 10 minutes, I'll explain everything, even about why we brought weed.'
She just looked at us with a dirty look and slammed the door. All we hoped was that she'd show up, and well she did. We asked her to come in and offered her a seat at the dining table. Some food too, and the packet of faux weed.
We wanted to make sure that she didn't inhale it, because god knows what would happen if you inhale kale powder through your nose. We said that she had to tell us everything which she saw on the day and night of the murder in order to get the bag of weed.
We also made sure to tell her that the best way to use the powder was adding it in food, and we said that it wasn't the type of weed to be inhaled.
She then looked sharply into my eyes and said, 'Fine. During the day, I was in my house, scaring kids off of my porch. I was all alone, drunk watching TV. At night, I heard party music so I got dressed up and went to the party opposite to my house. Guess what? They did have alcohol, but they kicked me out which was sad. I didn't go back home immediately though.
I was still roaming around in front of the house. That was when Sasha came around to call me a drunk bitch, followed by Nora. They went inside, and I was still outside because I know that I don't like family drama.'
We already knew all of these, what we were interested in hearing was what happened afterwards. Then Rachel asked her to continue, to which Raquel said that it would cost more.
I glared at her and asked with some pity, 'Don't you want to find out who killed the woman?'
She just looked at me with tough eyes, but not as menacing as before. She didn't say anything. So Rachel said that it would be delivered by afternoon.
Then Raquel hesitated for a bit and continued, 'Yes, I did see the murderer bashing the victims skull. I saw the whole thing from the corner of a bush.' We asked her why she didn't report it immediately, to which she said, 'I didn't want to be the murderer's next target. I prefer to live.'
Rachel asked if she saw his or her face to which Raquel didn't respond. She paused for a second and looked straight into Rachel's eyes and said, 'I'm pretty sure they did turn around to catch a breath from all that workout.'
She looked at me intensely and said, 'Since it happened at night, and there were no streetlights in our area, I couldn't see their face properly.'
"Now can I leave? I have to go meet my boyfriend. Thanks for the meal and this," Raquel said while pointing to the stash of kale powder which we gave her. The twist was when she turned back before leaving the house and whispered, "It's just kale, I know that much at least."
Rachel and I just stood there, knowing that we had underestimated her very much, yet she still said the details. She was definitely a unique woman, I will not lie," I say.
All of them just look at me, then Ginny speaks up and says, "You're story is quite interesting, always has me on the edge of my seat." I just chuckle and she continues, "I wonder what kind of a woman she was, you know Rachel seemed really cool." I say, "Yeah she was like that I guess."
Guy gets up and says," Ya'll want some lunch?" I say,"Yeah no one told me what we were all having for lunch. Did you both cook?" Henry says, "Uh, well it is home cooked but not by me or him. Our landlady was kind enough to make 6 sandwiches, just incase she made an extra."
This has me excited because it has been so long since i have had a home cooked meal by someone else. So, we set up the table for food while Guy reminds me, "We need someone to bring firewood, you know to cook the fish. I'm pretty sure it'll be enough for the five of us. So who is up for the task? I can't go since I have to help Henry in setting up our food."
I look around for a second and raise my hand while saying, "I'll do it, Valerie want to tag along?" She looks at me tilting her head and says, "Why not?"
