Guy says, "So 10 families then excluding the both of you?" To which I say, "Yeah, I guess. We started with Kenny's parents.
Before the interrogation, we received the footage of that Halloween night. The other members of our team had questioned the security guard, and received the footage. But here is the catch, due to rain on that night, and loose wires, the cameras kept clutching and we only saw the back of the murderer in the act. I'll tell about the guard in a bit.
Everyone called them Mr. and Mrs. Loo because Rachel said that their characters stank, but didn't know that. I was, am and will be an introvert for the rest of my life, so I didn't care to learn the names of my neighbors and just called them how ever the others did. I genuinely thought that their names were Mr. and Mrs. Loo. I swear to the love of god, she loved nick names.
So when we went to their house to interrogate them, I greeted them as, 'Hello Mr. and Mrs. Loo'. Everyone was shocked and Rachel was giving me the stink eye. She just somehow knocked it off as a joke. We thought that they would go berserk as they were known to be 'The Karens' of the neighborhood, but they didn't. Instead they just smiled and said, 'Oh is that what people are calling us now?' and chuckled. I guess the incident with Kenny took a toll on them.
Thats when I could see a small sigh of relief in Rach's face. We go inside and sit down, facing them both. I didn't know what to say after all that had happened, to them and Kenny. We just stared for a moment and Rachel broke the silence and said, 'Could you please take a look at this footage?' They looked and Rachel continued, 'The murderer is wearing a weird shaped outfit which looks like a bird. Since you have a costume and plushie shop down the road, do you by any chance recognize this? I'm asking because there are no other shops selling the items that you sell for at least 10 miles from this creepy old street.'
They looked at Rachel dead in the eye and said that they had a few customers come in and buy small stuff, but no one bought anything as big as that weird costume the murderer was wearing.
I further asked if they had any cameras around their shop, but they said that they didn't. Later we went and checked it out too, they didn't have cameras. Nothing bad usually happened near our place, so cameras weren't common.
'Could you please tell us what you were doing on the day before and night of Alice's death?'
Mr.Loo spoke up and said that, on the day of Halloween, they didnt have many customers. So, they closed their shop earlier than usual, like around 7 pm, went home ate dinner and got some sleep. They also mentioned about the party, as it was very noisy and kept them awake. But they said that they just lay in bed and woke up to the commotion of the next day, morning.
I thought to myself at that moment, 'Mr.Loo and his wife don't seem that suspicious because first of all, the both of them were anorexic and have a maid to take care of all three of them, named Theresa. The person in the footage was strong, these two couldn't have killed a tall, quite strong blonde woman to death.'
Naturally I asked to meet Theresa, the maid. She actually was a rented resident of the street. The Loo's had helped her with paying her rent and Theresa was absolutely grateful to them. After asking a few more questions, we left the small house.
Outside Rachel immediately said that it wasn't the Loo's or Theresa. She confirmed that it wasn't Theresa due to the height difference between her and the murderer. The murderer was like 5'5 but Theresa was visibly 4'5, quite short."
"Hmm quite interesting, I feel like we're starting the story now," Henry says.
"Coffee break?" Guy asks to which I reply, "No way, I'm too hungry, let's have an early dinner."
The both of them nod and we get out of the office and go to that cafe.
It's 7 pm, and we sit down at our tables after ordering few pizza's. Two medium pepperoni is what we ordered, along with a soda for each. They've started to sell pizzas nowadays in cafes.
As we are waiting for our order, Henry speaks up and says, "Why does everything go wrong during Halloween?" To which Guy replied, "Because it's Halloween dumb ass! Everything goes wrong, even trick or treating."
I just chuckle and say, "Maybe that is true. On the day of Halloween, 10 years ago, I vividly remember what Rachel and I did."
Henry says, "I never get tired of hearing your romance stories," and Guy just gave a thumbs up and a wink.
I just laugh and say, "Yeah, well we were busy during the day and Rach somehow found the time to buy our costumes, I don't remember if she ordered them or bought them. Yeah, she probably would've ordered them because there weren't any shops other than Mr.Loo's which she always said never had any scary fits.
Well, all I saw was two costumes, in a bag, packed cleanly. She said it was a surprise and that she'd only show it to me at night, but as we were too busy and returned late, I never saw the costumes. Sad, I really wish that I could've seen what she had gotten me. I did get a glimpse of it though, I think I saw flaps but who cares I guess."
They just look at me, a little empathetically and Henry says, "Don't worry, it all happens for a reason. Thats what my mom used to say. She said that each and everything, whether bad or good happens in relation to our actions and fate. After all everyone is fated to die, everything that happens to us leads to the end of our lives. And the way we die or the way in which a bad or a good thing happens to us is related to our karma. So if you didnt get to see the costumes, then maybe there was a deeper reason to it that you're not aware off."
I just look stunned. What the hell just happened? This guy literally spouted all of that knowledge, an 18 or 19 year old, without flinching even a muscle on his face, and just smiling entirely.
He looks confused after seeing our reactions and give us the 'huh' look to which Guy replies, "You have no clue what you look like from our point of view right now."
He still looks confused, thats when the waitress serves our pizzas and boy was I excited. I devoured few slices and my carbonated drink in 3 minutes. After a good meal I say, "I think we'll continue our session tomorrow, I'm too full to go back to the office."
They say, "Yeah, we'll call it a day I guess. But don't forget that your car is still parked at the office."
I look blankly and say, "I'll walk home, its a short distance, then I'll pick up my car tomorrow." Then we part ways and I go in the direction of my house.
The moon is full of light, too bright for the night sky. I reach my house and lay on my couch. I'm so tired that I doze off.
