"Dude, you're wife is smart but weird. Like why particularly aeroplane? How does it even make sense? Does she ask random things like these? Like, she doesn't even explain why she asks absurd things properly at all," Guy states in frustration.
Well, yeah my wife is weird like that. No one can understand what goes on in that little brain of hers. I just chuckle and say, "Well, that is one of the reason to why I fell in love with her. I love challenges and her brain was a big one too."
He gets quiet for a bit then says, "You're taste is unique, but I think I get the gist of what you're saying." I just smile as I look at my half devoured sandwich. Then Valerie asks, "So thats all? You're story is over? Like how will you be able to find them? Please don't tell me this is the end to the story."
I just look at her with soft eyes and say, "Far from over, Rach doesn't give up that easily." She sighs with relief as I continue, "We haven't fully finished Cally's part have we? We need to investigate the penguin costume customer."
They all nod in unison, while I continue, "Rachel got the address of that person. We asked for any signs to identify the person. She just said that it was a woman, about Rachel's height with dark hair. Apparently while delivering the order, the lady seemed sketchy. She was wearing a hoodie, covering her head inside her house.
We thought that finally we caught our suspect. I felt relieved at that time because everything was going to get over. No more drama and murder. Just Rachel and I sipping coconut water in Hawaii for our honeymoon.
Yeah, we hadn't gone to our honeymoon after the wedding because of the case. We were planning it and poof! dead body on the porch. After that we just left the topic undisturbed. I'm not sure if she forgot, but I sure as hell wanted to drink coconut water.
Well other things aside, we received the address from Cally. So the next day, fresh after breakfast, we took our car and drove till we reached our destination. It was a small but neat house, unlike most of the houses on our street. Well, we knocked and there was no answer in the beginning. Knocked again, no answers. Then a random person came up to us and said that he was the person's neighbor.
He also informed us of their death few days ago, due to suicide. Rachel then dug deeper by asking the reason for suicide. He said that he was never shown the body. The paramedics on the spot just informed him that his neighbor had suicided.
Then I proceeded to ask the late man's name. He was called Kane, apparently they both were pretty close, yet he was denied permission to see the body of his friend. The paramedics said that the body was unrecognizable, that was why they didn't let him even see it.
Rachel asked about Kane's friends and family, but the Neighbour said that he used to have a love hate relationship with his mom but at the end left her all alone. He even mentioned her name. A name which can never be forgotten, Katerina."
Henry's jaw drops, so does everyone's. I'm quite proud of myself to tell an amazing and interesting story. I then say, "Now, don't interrupt me, I might lose my flow." Ginny says, "Yeah everyone shut up, let him continue."
I smile and continue saying, "Obviously it seemed sketchy so I genuinely asked if he remembered which hospital that they were taking him to. The neighbour said that the paramedics denied him information for privacy reasons.
Privacy my foot, these dudes seemed super weird so I asked him a last question, 'Do you remember the fire engine number?' He said yes and gave me the number.
Rachel and I drove to that firehouse to see if the engine was still there. Fortunately it hadn't been sent to rescue. We introduced ourselves to a guy working there and asked to see his captain. He led us to the captain's room and we greeted him.
After catching him up on the details, we asked him if he and his team were really there in that street, or if someone stole the vehicle. He said that he'd know if the vehicle was stolen, but apparently they did go to Kane's house that day.
They were short staffed but still had to go on with the rescue. Since they got the details of the rescue and didn't think that it required a lot of men, the captain felt that the only three workers including him were enough. So along with them he went to the site.
He did say that he recalled someone talking to one of the firemen. But since Kane already died, they thought that it would be safe enough for that fireman to take him to the hospital alone in a paramedic ambulance.
Rachel asked him, 'Who pronounced him dead?' to which the captain with a confused look on his face said that it was the same fireman. Then realization hit him. He gave us every detail about the fireman, who was absent that day. Before approaching the fireman, we wanted to know which hospital Kane was admitted in.
The captain gave the hospital's name, Shekus Hospital."
Henry says, "Damn, I feel like this is completely unrelated to the case. I mean, what I'm trying to tell is, you got the clues from your case to solve another case."
Guy sighs and says, "I get why your case is unsolved. I mean, this Kane fellow seems shady enough, is related to Katerina and bought a bird costume from Cally. All for what? To end up dead."
Ginny says, "Well, yeah that is true. Quite a difficult case. Honestly Rachel deserved a break from all of this. Maybe you should have taken the initiative to take her to Hawaii."
I then say, "We would've but we moved out of the house after the case was registered as unsolved. She didn't want to live there, knowing that Kenny was in a coma and it hurt her too much is all I can say. So yeah, budget problem."
"But, a part of you should have been happy right? The killer didn't get caught. Justice served," Valerie said. I look at her and say, "As per the people, justice served, but as per law, justice not served. Alice should've served an eternity in jail, it all after all comes under Human Rights. I know that the people may be angered by this, but unfortunately no can do. This system was created by the people to punish defaulters so that the people don't act upon their wishes."
"I know, but it is hard to digest," Valerie says. Then I say, "Yeah, that is why a lot of people critcise the system but at the end you can't do shit." Ginny looks up at me and says, "Well, enough of politics, let's start roasting the fish."
I look at Guy and say, "You sure that it is safe to eat right?" To which Henry replies, "Yeah Guy said that he googled the picture of the fish. It said that it is fine to eat." I look at him with a stern look and say, "You sure?"
Guy looks at me a little hesitantly and says, "Yeah don't worry, what could go wrong?" I just sigh and go towards the fire.
