I called out to Rachel and said, 'It is freaky down here. How fast can you get me up?' She couldn't see exactly what I was seeing, so she didn't know what had freaked me out. She asked me what it was, to which I just said, 'Something you don't want to know.'
She was persuasive so eventually I told her what was there in the basement. Costumes, like freaking 'girly pop' kind of costumes on manequinns. The picture he had hanging around were photos of him in these suits, with a lot of makeup on. I didn't really care, but he didn't have to hide it all like that.
That was when it clicked, and I yelled out to Rachel, 'Honey, check that costume which Cally gave Kane. Don't just see the outer packaging, see the altered dress inside.'
After hearing the panic in my voice, Rachel immediately went elsewhere to check it. I heard a zip opening and a thud. That was when she came back, running and said, 'You won't believe this, but Cally stitched the damn costume into a body suit. So imagine a penguin body suit.'
I figured to be honest, but then I had to first of all get out of there. I found a door, a pretty easy walk to the land above. I walked up to my wife with a bleeding head, I hadn't realised until she screamed. We went to the E.R. immediately because my wife is that type of a person, really proud of her.
I told her on the way that Kane was nowhere near to being the killer, to which she agreed. I asked her if she found out which brand the costume was from, to which she sighed and told me that it was Mr. and Mrs. Louise's store brand.
I mean, it still didn't prove anything at all. I didn't really understand if we were missing clues at that point but the investigation looked bad. After the quick E.R. visit, we went back to Kane's house, because we weren't finished with the investigation.
The thing which kept bothering me was the fact that Kane literally wasn't part of the LGBTQ+ community. I mean, if he was then why would he not even have a single picture of him dressed up? Even if it was secretive, then why did he literally have a dating account with '#homosexual'.
Yes, we did in fact go through his socials and found some interesting stuff. He was an orthodox homosexual, too much I think. Dude hated them for some reason, yet he had costumes, like hundreds of them in his basement, neatly maintained.
It didn't add up at all. I didn't even know if this was related to our case. We looked further into the basement, explored it. Rachel checked the costumes, and guess what we found?
If you guessed cocaine, yes, then you'd be correct. There were thin strips of cocaine powder stuck on the inner side of the dresses. I thought that it was used to smuggle drugs without being detected. I'm not sure if it did a good job though, because it can definitely get a handful at times.
Now, for sure we didnt know if this was related to our case. What puzzled us the most was why the cops had not seen this. Did they really do a terrible job like this? After gathering some evidences and photos, we went to the head of the department to raise a complaint."
Henry asks, "What happened? Why didnt they confisticate the evidence?"
I sigh and tell, "First of all, lousy workers, secondly, the door was locked from inside. That is how I easily let myself out. Kane had an amazing safety system even though his house was shitty. The outer lock was very much perfect at doing its job. Too complicated apparently, and I just had to twist the knob from inside to let myself out.
We handed over the evidence to them and they said that they would look into it deeper to understand the length of that case. We didn't really know what to do after that tiresome day, so we went home and took rest.
But, something kept Rachel in a constant restless state."
Guy says, "Her intuition is always right though." I sigh and say, "She felt horrible because the Chief had asked us to close the case due to the duration of investigation and the public. They wanted justice for the killer, a lot of riots were happening. The people wanted the killer to roam around freely, hence pressurized the police department.
She felt horrible because she couldn't thank the killer. She didnt want to close the case at all, so she asked for a few days more. We were denied those few days. Rach felt that she could investigate a bit more, she had a lot of questions too but she never said that aloud for some reason.
It almost felt like she was different during this case. She was really persuasive, but when the Chief had asked us to close the case, she just accepted the defeat. She didn't even try hard like she normally used to.
It almost felt like she personally wanted to close the case before it got out of hand but she never showed it out.
It was sad, definitely, but we all kind of felt indifferent because no one really wanted to punish a righteous act, yet wrong by the law.
So, yeah, that was the end of the case. Most definitely the most flat, shortest and weird way to close the case. But it was done due to the public movements and some political issues which I don't want to get into detail.
It felt like the most underwhelming experience ever. I wouldn't recommend that. But, everything happens for a reason after all."
Guy and Henry sigh so hard that I can feel their lungs vibrating. Guy exclaims, "So thats it? Thats all? The story is just over? Wow, I knew this was coming but I didnt know that it would hit hard."
I chuckle a bit but I just shrug. Henry says, "I kind of feel like what Rachel did at the end was a bit off but honestly this case would have taken quite a toll on you both so I genuinely don't blame you folks."
Henry pauses for a second but continues, "Wait, did you figure out why the killer used Katerina's number?"
I tell him, "I think Alice knew Katerina well enough to exchange numbers." Henry asks, "How did Alice recognize Katerina's number though? Even if the killer had stated themself as Katerina, was Alice actually that dumb to believe it? She didn't have it saved right?"
I think for a bit and say, "Couldn't solve it. Maybe they both knew each other well enough to exchange numbers. But it doesn't add up."
Guy says, "How did the killer get Alice's number?"
I reply quickly, "She just made a slightly stupid mistake. She kept on calling a single person continuously like 20 times a day. And guess what? That person's number was from another country, more specifically her home country. The killer probably traced everyday outgoing calls and saw a pattern.
He probably winged it, but it hit the bullseye."
They nod in deep agreement. Henry looks up and asks, "How did you find that? And after finding it out, couldn't you guys track her location?"
I say, "She kept switching phones, and was always on the move. When she must have gotten the first message from the killer, she would have stopped calling and switched phones again. Every time, her location showed in the extremes of the city."
I continue, "Guys, can we continue this tomorrow? I feel a little off right now." They look at each other a little panic stricken and Guy asks, "You're physically alright right?"
I say, "Yeah, I need some time alone. I hope this isn't a problem."
They both nod and I bid them a farewell.
