The team's dynamics shifted further as everyone settled into their new roles. Missions were still frequent, but the down-time in the safehouse often felt more tense than the battles they faced. Between unspoken feelings, subtle rivalries, and emerging powers, the group was on the verge of something none of them fully understood.

Sofia and Spuros: A Growing Connection
Sofia and Spuros often worked together, both enjoying the quiet moments when they could focus on logistics and strategy. One afternoon, they were alone in the tech room, poring over schematics for a mutant-tracking device Leonidas had suggested they build.
"I think this part connects here," Sofia said, leaning closer to Spuros to point at the diagram.
Spuros nodded, his heart racing. "Yeah, but if we don't route the power correctly, it could short-circuit. Let me-"
Their hands brushed as they reached for the same wire, and both froze.
"S-sorry," Spuros stammered, pulling his hand back.
"It's fine," Sofia said, but her voice was soft, and her cheeks were tinged pink.
As they moved to pull their hands away completely, something unexpected happened. A faint glow began to emit from their palms, a golden light that grew brighter when their fingers touched again.
"What's...happening?" Sofia whispered, her eyes wide.
Spuros stared at the light, equal parts terrified and fascinated. "I-I don't know."
The glow flickered and then disappeared as they pulled their hands apart. They sat in stunned silence for a moment before Sofia finally spoke.
"Do you think this means...you have powers?"
"I don't know," Spuros said, his voice trembling. "Maybe. Or maybe it's something to do with you."
"Whatever it is," Sofia said, her voice firm, "we'll figure it out together."

Morena's Confrontation
Meanwhile, Morena had reached her breaking point. Watching Kwstas and Nikolas interact-even when they weren't obviously affectionate-left her feeling invisible. She cornered Kwstas in the common room late one evening, her arms crossed and her expression serious.
"Kwstas, we need to talk," she said.
Kwstas blinked, startled. "Sure, Morena. What's up?"
She hesitated, then took a deep breath. "I like you, Kwstas. I think you know that. And I need to know if there's...a chance for us."
Kwstas's heart sank. He hated this part. "Morena, you're an amazing person, and I care about you. But I don't feel that way about you."
Her face fell, but she nodded slowly. "It's Nikolas, isn't it?"
Kwstas looked away, not answering.
Morena laughed bitterly. "Of course it is. I should've seen it earlier."
"I never meant to hurt you," Kwstas said softly.
Morena nodded again, her voice trembling. "I know. Just...give me some space for a while, okay?"

Nikolas's Jealousy Boils Over
Nikolas watched the interaction from the hallway, his jaw tightening as Morena walked away from Kwstas, clearly upset. He stepped into the room, his presence commanding attention.
"What was that about?" he asked, trying to sound casual but failing miserably.
Kwstas sighed. "She needed to hear the truth."
Nikolas frowned, his tone sharp. "The truth? Or your truth?"
Kwstas turned to face him, his frustration bubbling to the surface. "Why do you care? You keep pulling me in and then pushing me away. You wanted to tell me something before, but then you left all of a sudden, like none of it mattered. You can't just do that to me, Nikolas!"
Nikolas froze, guilt flickering in his eyes. "I...I don't know how to do this, Kwstas. You're the only one who makes me feel like this, and it scares the hell out of me."
Kwstas softened, his voice gentler now. "It's okay to be scared. But you need to stop running away from how you feel. I'm not going anywhere."
Nikolas didn't respond immediately, but his eyes lingered on Kwstas's for a long moment, his emotions raw and unguarded.

A Discovery About Spuros and Sofia
The next day, Spuros and Sofia shared their strange glowing-hands moment with the group. Leonidas listened intently, his expression unreadable as they described what had happened.
"It's possible," Leonidas said after a long pause, "that Spuros's powers are tied to connection-specifically, emotional connection. Sofia might've triggered something latent in him."
"Wait," Spuros said, his heart pounding. "You're saying...Sofia gave me powers?"
"Not exactly," Leonidas clarified. "Your powers were already there. She just helped unlock them. It's rare, but not unheard of for mutant abilities to manifest through contact with another mutant."
Sofia and Spuros exchanged a nervous glance.
Melina grinned. "Guess that means you're officially one of us now, Spuros."
Morena, still nursing her hurt feelings, crossed her arms. "Great. Another couple in the making."
Kwstas shot her a warning look, but Nikolas smirked. "Jealous, Morena?"
"Shut up, Nikolas," Morena snapped, storming out of the room.

Late-Night Conversations
That night, Spuros found himself on the roof, his thoughts racing. Sofia joined him not long after, carrying two mugs of tea.
"I thought you might need this," she said, sitting down next to him.
"Thanks," Spuros said, taking the mug. "I still can't wrap my head around all this."
"Me neither," Sofia admitted. "But you know what? I think it's a good thing. Maybe your powers are tied to something more than just strength or speed. Maybe they're about trust."
Spuros smiled faintly. "Trust, huh? You think I'm ready for that kind of power?"
Sofia nudged him playfully. "You'll be fine. Besides, you've got me to keep you grounded."
Their hands brushed again, and the glow returned briefly before fading. Spuros chuckled nervously. "Guess we're stuck with this connection thing."
"Could be worse," Sofia said, her eyes twinkling.
As the two sat together, the team felt a little more complete-and a little more complicated.
