The portal opened to a dimly lit alleyway in Thessaloniki. The evening air was thick with the smell of the sea, the faint hum of city life around them. The team stepped out cautiously, scanning their surroundings. Spurik stumbled slightly as he exited, catching himself on the wall of the alley.
"Smooth entrance," Nikolas said dryly, his voice heavy with sarcasm.
"Hey, portals aren't exactly...normal for me," Spurik shot back, brushing off his hoodie.
Melina stifled a giggle, finding his awkwardness strangely endearing. She fell in step beside him as the team moved out, her protective instinct kicking in.
"You okay?" she asked, her tone soft.
"Yeah, just trying to keep up," Spurik admitted, giving her a sheepish smile.
For a brief moment, Melina's heart skipped a beat. She quickly pushed the thought aside, focusing instead on the mission. This is no time for distractions, she told herself.

Into the Facility
Leonidas led the team to the perimeter of the research facility, a modern building surrounded by a high-tech security fence. Spiros opened a small portal through the gate, allowing the group to slip inside undetected.
"Okay, stick to the plan," Leonidas whispered. "Kwstas and Nikolas, you'll handle any enforcers. Morena, Melina, and I will disable the security systems. Spiros, Sofia, and Spurik, you'll be on lookout. Don't engage unless absolutely necessary."
"Got it," Spurik said, though he felt a pang of guilt for being relegated to the sidelines.
The group split up, moving with precision through the facility. Melina found herself glancing back at Spurik more often than she intended, her worry for him growing with each step.

The Mishap
As the lookout team positioned themselves near a control room, Spurik couldn't help but fidget with one of the high-tech panels on the wall.
"Don't touch anything," Sofia warned, her eyes narrowing.
"I'm not doing anything!" Spurik replied, holding up his hands defensively. But as he shifted his weight, his elbow bumped a switch on the panel.
A loud blaring alarm immediately echoed through the building.
"Seriously?!" Sofia exclaimed.
Spurik's face turned bright red. "I-I didn't mean to! It was an accident!"
Before anyone could react, a nearby turret deployed from the ceiling, targeting the source of the disturbance. A small laser blast grazed Spurik's leg, causing him to yelp in pain and stumble backward.
Melina was at his side in an instant, creating a shimmering force field to block further blasts.
"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.
"Yeah, yeah, it's just a scratch," Spurik said, wincing as he clutched his leg.
"Stay behind me," Melina ordered, her tone firm.
Sofia quickly deactivated the turret with a few precise button presses, and the room fell silent again.
"Nice job, Spurik," Nikolas said when they regrouped. "You've officially joined the mission screw-up club."
"Leave him alone, Nik," Melina snapped, surprising everyone-including herself. "It was an accident. Besides, you've made your fair share of mistakes."
Kwstas smirked. "She's got a point."
Spurik gave Melina a grateful look, and her cheeks flushed slightly as she looked away.

After the Mission
The mission ultimately ended with mixed success. The team managed to prevent Vesper from stealing the data, but several key files were destroyed in the process. The villains escaped, leaving behind only chaos and frustration.
Back at the safehouse, Leonidas debriefed the team, his tone stern but understanding.
"We did well to stop them, but we can't afford mistakes like that again," he said, glancing pointedly at Spurik.
Spurik nodded, still nursing his wounded pride along with his leg. "It won't happen again."
After the meeting, Melina found him sitting alone in the kitchen, icing his leg with a frozen bag of peas.
"You sure you're okay?" she asked, sitting across from him.
"Yeah, just embarrassed," Spurik admitted. "I keep thinking I'm going to help, and then I just...mess things up."
"You didn't mess things up," Melina said gently. "You're new to all this. Mistakes happen. What matters is that you're trying."
Spurik looked at her, his expression softening. "Thanks, Melina. That means a lot."
Melina smiled, feeling her heart flutter again. Get it together, she thought. "Well, if you're going to stick around, you'll need some training. We can start tomorrow."
"I'd like that," Spurik said, his smile returning.
As she left the kitchen, Melina couldn't help but feel a strange warmth in her chest. It wasn't the same kind of bond she had with the others-this felt different. Special.

New Dynamics
The rest of the team noticed the subtle shift in Melina's behavior around Spurik. Sofia teased her about it when they were alone, while Spiros seemed to observe from the sidelines, his expression unreadable.
Meanwhile, Nikolas continued to battle his inner turmoil. His bruised knuckles were healing, but his stress over the team's safety-and his own feelings for Kwstas-was far from resolved.
Kwstas noticed his unease one evening and pulled him aside. "Nik, you've got to stop beating yourself up. Literally and figuratively."
Nikolas sighed. "I know. It's just...a lot to deal with. But I'll figure it out."
"You don't have to figure it out alone," Kwstas reminded him, squeezing his shoulder.
Nikolas nodded, his gratitude evident, though his tension remained.
As the team settled into their new dynamics, one thing was clear: their bonds were growing stronger, but so were the challenges they faced. And as the shadow of Vesper loomed larger, they would need every ounce of strength-and trust-to face what was coming.
