The discovery of mutans

A few days had passed since the group’s adventure in the ancient temple. The team was still processing everything they had experienced and learned, their powers feeling sharper, stronger, and more connected than ever before.

Melina, for one, seemed to be in a particularly good mood. “So, I was thinking,” she said, leaning back on the safehouse couch, “if we ever go public, we need a team name. Something cool. Something dramatic.”

Kwstas, sitting on the floor and half-listening, raised an eyebrow. “Like what?”

“‘The Athens Avengers,’” she announced with a grin, striking a superhero pose.

Nikolas groaned. “Please, no.”

“Okay, fine,” Melina said, unfazed. “What about ‘The Phenomenals’? Or...‘Melina and the Mutants’?”

Kwstas chuckled softly, his tiredness evident in his slightly slouched posture. “Yeah, because your name should totally be front and center.”

“Obviously,” Melina replied, tossing a pillow at him. “I’m the heart and soul of this team.”

“More like the chaos and noise,” Nikolas muttered, earning another pillow to the face.

Even as Kwstas laughed at Melina’s antics, he couldn’t shake the exhaustion creeping over him. Between their missions, training, and the growing tension among humans and mutants, he barely had time to rest. Still, Melina’s jokes made the burden feel lighter.

The Attack Begins

It was late afternoon when the first tremors rocked the city. The team had been scattered across the safehouse, catching up on some rare downtime, when Leonidas burst into the room.

“Something’s happening,” he said, his voice urgent. “The center of Athens is under attack. Reports are coming in about a mutant causing massive destruction.”

The team jumped into action, quickly gathering their gear.

“What kind of mutant?” Sofia asked, strapping on her gloves.

Leonidas hesitated. “I’m not sure, but it’s bad. The authorities are already involved, and if this gets out of hand, the whole world could see what mutants are capable of.”

Kwstas sighed, already forming a shield of light around his hand. “Looks like we don’t have a choice. Let’s go.”

Chaos in the City

When the team arrived in the city center, the scene was pure chaos. Buildings were crumbling, cars were overturned, and civilians were fleeing in every direction. In the middle of it all stood the source of the destruction: a towering figure with glowing red eyes and arms crackling with raw energy.

“That...is a big guy,” Spuros said, his voice cracking slightly.

“Understatement of the year,” Nikolas muttered, stepping forward.

The mutant, who looked like he was made of living stone, turned to face them. His deep, rumbling voice echoed through the streets. “You think you can stop me? You’re just children.”

“Children with powers,” Morena snapped, raising a wall of metal shards around her.

“More like legends in the making,” Melina added, a cocky grin on her face. “Also, seriously? Living stone? Did you lose a bet on your power design?”

Kwstas stifled a laugh. “Melina, maybe don’t antagonize the giant rock man?”

“Why not? He’s not immune to insults,” she replied, sticking out her tongue.

The mutant roared in fury and slammed his fists into the ground, sending a shockwave that cracked the pavement and knocked several cars into the air.

“Scatter!” Leonidas shouted.

The Battle

The team sprang into action. Kwstas fired beams of light at the mutant, aiming for weak spots in the cracks of his stone-like body.

Nikolas charged forward, his seismic punches meeting the mutant’s fists in a thunderous clash. “This guy’s tough!” Nikolas shouted, gritting his teeth as he blocked a blow.

“More like impossible!” Spuros yelled, creating a portal to redirect a chunk of rubble away from some fleeing civilians.

“Keep him distracted!” Morena said, her eyes glowing as she manipulated nearby metal debris into sharp projectiles. She sent them flying at the mutant, who roared in pain as they lodged in his armor-like skin.

Melina, meanwhile, darted around the battlefield, her force fields protecting bystanders and occasionally trapping chunks of falling debris. “Hey, big guy!” she called, waving her arms. “Over here! Or are you too slow to catch me?”

The mutant turned toward her with a growl, slamming his fists into the ground again. This time, the shockwave was even stronger, sending Melina tumbling backward.

Kwstas rushed to her side, his light forming a protective shield around them. “Are you okay?”

Melina gave him a thumbs-up. “Never better. This guy’s a real buzzkill, though.”

Kwstas rolled his eyes but couldn’t help a small smile. “Let’s take him down, then.”

A Turning Point

Despite the team’s efforts, the mutant seemed almost unstoppable. Every time they managed to damage him, his rocky exterior regenerated.

“This isn’t working!” Sofia shouted, ducking under a flying car.

“We need to hit him all at once!” Kwstas called out. “Overwhelm him!”

The team regrouped, each of them focusing their powers on the mutant. Nikolas slammed the ground, sending seismic ripples that destabilized the mutant’s footing. Morena launched a barrage of metal shards, targeting the cracks in his armor. Kwstas fired a concentrated beam of light, blinding the mutant momentarily.

Even Spuros joined in, using his portals to redirect some of the mutant’s attacks back at him.

As the combined assault intensified, the mutant finally began to falter, his movements slowing.

“Now’s our chance!” Leonidas shouted.

Nikolas delivered the final blow, a massive punch that sent the mutant crashing into a building.

The Aftermath

As the dust settled, the team stood in the middle of the wreckage, their breathing heavy. The mutant lay unconscious, his body reverting to a more human form.

Around them, civilians had stopped running, their eyes wide with shock and fear. Phones were out, recording everything.

“This is bad,” Sofia said, her voice low. “Really bad.”

“They know now,” Leonidas said grimly, scanning the crowd. “The world knows mutants exist.”

Melina broke the tension with a nervous laugh. “Well, at least they got our good side?”

Kwstas shook his head, his light shield flickering as his exhaustion caught up with him. “This is just the beginning. Things are going to get a lot harder from here.”

Nikolas placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “We’ll deal with it. Together.”

As the team regrouped, the weight of their actions—and the knowledge that they could no longer hide—hung heavy in the air. But for now, they had won, and that was enough.
