Chapter 11: The Crimson Awakening Begins
The next day, a loud alarm blared across the compound. Alex and his companions rushed to the command center, where the faction’s leader, a stern man named Lucas, was barking orders.
“We’ve got incoming,” Lucas said, pointing to a screen that displayed dozens of red dots converging on their position.
“What is that?” Eliza asked, her daggers already in hand.
“Evolved Zombies,” Lucas replied. “But these aren’t normal zombies. They’re faster, stronger... more intelligent.”
Before anyone could react, the first wave of monsters breached the compound’s gates. It was chaos. Xander and Eliza leaped into the fray, while Alex summoned a massive barrier to protect the civilians. Riley used her shadows to disarm zombies, sending their limbs spiraling into the air.
Alex noticed something odd about the attacking zombies. They had crystals embedded in their skulls, pulsing with a faint red glow.
“This is bad,” Alex muttered. “They’re evolving faster than we expected.”
With each wave, the zombies became more relentless, as if they were adapting to their strategies. Alex felt his powers surge, and the pencil in his hand vibrated with an urgency he hadn’t felt before. He quickly scribbled Catalyst and a massive shockwave erupted from his body, knocking back the zombies and buying them some time.
