Chapter 12: Shadowed Secrets
After the battle, the group realized that the traitor in the faction had been one of their own—a former member of the Overseer’s inner circle who had infiltrated the survivors to gain intelligence. The group confronted him, and he confessed that he had been feeding information to the Overseer in exchange for promises of power.
Riley was the one to deal the final blow, her shadow tendrils wrapping around the traitor’s throat and squeezing until he gasped for breath.
“I didn’t want to kill him,” Riley said, her voice hollow. “But there was no choice.”
The group was left to deal with the fallout of betrayal, but Alex felt a strange sense of clarity. They couldn’t trust anyone—except each other.
