Chapter 6: The Monster King
While exploring the outskirts of the bunker, the group encounters their greatest challenge yet: a massive Evolved Zombie known as the Monster King. Standing over 15 feet tall, the creature’s body is covered in spikes, and its eyes burn with a malevolent blue light.
The fight is brutal. The Monster King summons hordes of lesser zombies, overwhelming the group. Alex uses the pencil to create a barrage of flaming arrows, but the creature shrugs them off as if they were nothing.
“This isn’t working!” Riley shouts, her shadow attacks barely slowing the monster.
Eliza and Xander coordinate a desperate plan, using their combined abilities to distract the Monster King while Alex searches for a weakness. He notices a massive, glowing Core embedded in the creature’s chest.
“That’s it!” he yells. “We have to destroy the Core!”
With Shadow’s help, Alex manages to climb onto the Monster King’s back. Using the pencil, he summons a blade of pure energy and drives it into the Core. The Monster King lets out a deafening roar as the Core shatters, and the creature collapses, disintegrating into ash.
The Core’s remains scatter across the ground, forming a massive crystal unlike any they’ve seen before. When Alex absorbs it, the world seems to shift around him. His body radiates power, and he hears a voice in his mind:
“You are closer to the truth. Seek the Overseer.”
The chapter ends with Alex, Eliza, Xander, Riley, and Shadow standing amidst the ruins of the battle. Their journey is far from over, but they’ve taken a significant step toward unraveling the mysteries of the apocalypse.
