Jeff and I stared at each other. Jeff’s eyes were raging with anger. Mine were pleading with him, begging for forgiveness. Oh it’s not that I did not believe him.I trust him completely. Oh why did I not keep my big mouth shut?

What do I make of Ally offering her car? What is Jeff thinking?

‘Please__I’m sorry,’ I whispered. ‘Don’t leave me, you know I trust you,’ I wrung my fingers nervously.

‘Are you two love birds just going to ignore me?’ Ally laughed.

I breathed deeply, summoned a smile and looked at Ally, as Jeff was just not talking to me now.

‘What do you mean? “I can use your car,”’ I asked Ally.

‘This happened to me about two years ago in a race,’ she nodded excitedly.

‘What happened to you?’ I asked in confusion, I was also pleased Jeff came to stand closer to me, his shoulder brushed against mine.

‘My engine caught alight in Brazil,’ she smiled, ‘do you remember Jeff?’

Jeff nodded in acknowledgement.

‘Yeah, we had a reserve team mate. I used her vehicle and finished the race, although second to what’s his face next to you,’ Ally laughed.

‘Where were you yesterday when Katy and I went back to the hotel?’ Jeff demanded.

‘Told you, I was going sightseeing.’

‘Anybody go with you?’ Jeff continued his interrogation.

‘Wait a minute,’ I interrupted Jeff, placing my fingers over his lips, ‘Ally, you mean I can still race? You mean I could use your car? Is that allowed?’

‘Yes, yes, and yes,’ she hugged me.

I looked at Jeff, my eyes were asking the question, Could this person sabotage me?

‘It was what I wanted to suggest, when I told you earlier, I had a plan,’ Jeff reminded me.

‘Then I accept,’ I exclaimed jubilantly.

‘Katy__’ Jeff started.

‘Jeff, I want to race. I want the opportunity. I want to use Ally’s car,’ I pleaded.

Jeff’s eyes were saying, If Ally is sabotaging you, you could get seriously hurt in her car, if it’s rigged.

But I was not hearing that. I do not want to believe that Ally is bad. I was blinded by my obsession to finish my race. I want to get on the track tomorrow, damn it!

‘Please Jeff, say yes,’ I pleaded, ‘I think all’s good, ‘I told him cryptically.

‘Under one condition,’ Ally spoke.

‘What?’ Jeff and I questioned in unison.

‘Nobody interferes in my car. Not Tom, not you Jeff . I look after my own car.’

‘Not a bloody chance in hell!’ Jeff spat out.

‘Oh no!’ I shrunk to the floor, wrapping my arms around my knees and sobbing my heart out, like my life was just about to end.

‘You used to be a good kid. What the hell happened to you?’ I heard Jeff yell at Ally.

‘Katy?’ Ally fell to her knees, to talk with me.

‘No,’ I just continued to sob, shaking my head from left to right.

Ally is not involved in this crime, she’s not, please!
