The miniscule green spears tickle my legs as I open my eyes, to find myself laying against a massive fir tree. Why have I allowed myself to end up somewhere like this.
The sky is still very dark, and there's practically nobody in the street, so I am assuming I've either not slept for long or it's just early in the morning. Whatever the time, I should probably start heading back now, although I don't particularly want to go back as I've grown quite a liking to this protruding piece of earth I am sitting on. Maybe just a few more minutes up here, then I'll go.
It ends up being around ten minutes before I finally decide to go home. Tiredly, I sit myself up from the tree trunk that had been supporting me all through my sleep, and heave a big sigh. I should come here more often.
Just as I am about to stand up, I hear something coming from the distance, coming closer. It sounded like footsteps of some sort. Ever since I got here, nobody has actually payed any visits to this place, so this is a first for me.
As I listen to the footsteps approaching the top of the hill, my brain starts to make up false scenarios about this person, which only just freaks me out. Now, I'm just sitting, waiting for this stranger to make it to the top of the hill. For some reason, the atmosphere gets quite tense and the wait becomes longer than it should be.
Finally, the person reaches the top and I finally get to see who I've been imagining.
The sight gives me quite a shock. He is wearing some washed out black baggy jeans, with a black graphic t-shirt and a white longsleeved top underneath that. His shoes are almost completely fallen apart, but they match the outfit well. He is also wearing a black beanie with his blond hair neatly tucked behind his ears.
"Felix?"
He looks confused at first, but then smiles weakly and comes to sit next to me. "What are you doing here Aera? It's 2am, why aren't you at home?"
I honestly don't know why I'm here. I just felt like it, I guess.
"I'm not entirely sure to be honest.. what about you?" I question.
Felix sighs a little. "I don't know. I sometimes come here to clear my mind, you know?"
I nod understandingly.
"Oh also.. Hyunjin wanted to know where you were as you weren't answering his texts or anything" He adds.
Rolling my eyes, I answer. "Yeah, well my mum took my phone and pretty much all my methods of communication. So, not great."
Felix chuckles lightly. "How in the world did you manage that?"
"Came home late, and she also found out I was with a guy."
The glowing, ethereal light of the moon reflects gently onto Felix's hair, making him look like some sort of angel sent from heaven. He really is absolutely beautiful.
"Hey Felix, has anyone ever told you how perfect you are?"
I watch as his face shades a light pink colour, his lips upturning into a sweet smile.
"You really think so?" He sounds questionable.
"Of course I do. Have you seen yourself?"
Felix giggles lightly. "Well thank you Aera.. that was really kind of you to say."
We end up talking until the sun rises and the streets have become busy again. Talking to Felix is like meditation, my mind refreshes and I feel peaceful.
For a little while, it goes silent. Not an awkward silence though. We both sit and watch the world go by, not saying anything but enjoying the presence of one another.
Suddenly, a buzz comes from Felix's hoodie pocket. I watch as he pulls out his phone, opening his notification.
"Who is it?"
Felix stares blankly at his phone screen for a moment, before answering my question.
"Just my dad. He wants me home." The blond boy sighs, looking genuinely sad about this.
Weakly, I push myself up off the ground, admiring the view once again before looking down at Felix. "Come on then, let's go. I don't want your parents to be mad at you too."
He nods silently and stands up too, his legs unstable from sitting down for so long.
We both walk back through the city, our first destination being Felix's house. It doesn't take that long to get there from the hill usually, but since both of us are exhausted, the walk there feels like ages. Honestly, I have no idea how I'm going to get home in this state.
At last, we reach our destination, and Felix and I exchange waves before he disappears into his house. I watch from the end of his front garden as the door starts to shut, but before it is fully closed I end up locking eyes with who seems to be Felix's dad. He shoots me a stern look before shutting the door.
~~~
I creep up to the front door. With an attempt at being quiet, I tightly grab onto my keychains to stop them from dingling whilst I twist open the lock.
I am greeted with a sweet smell of raspberry freshener as I tiptoe into my house. It must still be pretty early, because it's unusually quiet. Once I take off my shoes, I head straight for the kitchen for a drink of water.
As I go to sit down on the counter stool, I notice my phone sitting there quietly, a little post-it note with the words 'PLEASE READ' written in bold letters stuck just on top of it.
I peel off the post-it cautiously, scared that it will be a letter of disowning from my mother. After reading the first few words though, I took a sigh.
~~ Dear Aera,
If you have decided to finally come back home, then I should tell you that I will be away on a trip to London with Jiyeon. Please just don't throw any parties or any of the sorts. I don't want to come back to a destroyed home. I'm giving your phone back for the time being so I can send you a message once I know how long the trip is.
Love you,
Mum . xx
'Thank goodness it's just a business trip.'
