"Enmu..." (Y/N) uttered as she faced him, her eyes widening upon sight of the familiar dream demon. "What... what are you doing here?"
"Aw, you remembered my name!" He chirped with an excited clap, looking to be far too pleased by that factoid. "But, to answer your question, little moon demon, Muzan-sama has assigned me to accompany you whilst you look for Upper Rank Five! Isn't that wonderful?"
(Y/N) stared at him.
This is... unexpected.
Not only that, but a hitch in my plans.
I must lose him.
"I do not need you to watch me," she finally spoke after a moment's silence, watching the way as Enmu's smile only seemed to curve more in delight more so than anything, a rather unnerved factor that didn't settle too well with her. "Disregard what has been assigned to you and be on your own way. I will find Upper Moon Five by myself. I need no... nursemaid."
"Is that so?" Enmu chuckled, highly entertained. "No matter. It is what Muzan-sama has ordered of me, and I dare not cross his direction."
(Y/N) exhaled in disbelief.
"But," Enmu hummed as he tilted his head, pressing a finger to his chin. "I am curious about one thing."
"What is it?"
"Why didn't Muzan-sama just bring Upper Five to you?" He mused, flicking his almost electric blue eyes to the darkness of the forest as if he were somewhat expecting to see Muzan standing there ominously, waiting to strike him down for even thinking of questioning his motives. "Surely that is a much better way of ensuring you complete your task, is it not? So much less time consuming, as well."
"I cannot begin to guess the workings of that man's mind," (Y/N) muttered. "All I can assume is that he wants this to challenge me. For what reason, though... perhaps to better sharpen his weapon."
She said that almost bitterly, and Enmu couldn't help but notice, his smirk drawing further.
(Y/N) glanced at him.
Just as quickly, she looked away.
She couldn't help but be reminded of when she had met him not so long ago—had it only been about five months? A slight anger began to course through her veins upon recalling what he had said to her that night, and what he had planned to do to not only her fellow Demon Slayer companions, but to the other innocent passengers of the train as well. Letting out a slow breath and closing her eyes, she willed herself not to strike him down. After all, if Muzan saw that through her eyes or Enmu's, he would surely rescind her freedom.
