"Hello, my children," Kagaya greeted both (Y/N) and Sanemi in that familiar soothing voice of his, currently the man sitting on a zabuton of the main room of his mansion, his two daughters beside him ready to help their father if need be. "Shinobu sent me a letter that you would be visiting me soon. After I heard from Tengen of what had became of you, I was worried we wouldn't be able to meet again."
"I as well," (Y/N) uttered softly.
"Please," Kagaya extended his hand to offer them a seat, his daughters supplying two more zabuton pillows. "Sit."
Both uttered murmurs of thanks as they tucked their legs underneath them to sit.
"Tea?" Kagaya asked softly as he methodically began to pour a cup, his eyes lidding whilst his hands moved reflexively on their own, like he had done this hundreds of times before.
"Thank you, Oyakata-sama," Sanemi nodded.
"Thank you... but, um..." (Y/N) started, trailing off at the thought of trying to process drink or food she knew she couldn't.
"It is okay, (Y/N)," Kagaya smiled as he first doled out a cup to Sanemi, and then one for himself. "I know. Apologies if I made you feel uncomfortable answering. However, the topic of tea isn't one we are here to discuss." Taking a sip from his small cup, his smile dimming ever so slightly, he uttered, "Tengen mentioned that one of Kibutsuji's Upper Moons had taken you. A grave mistake on our part for ever allowing you to fall into his hands."
"No, it was my mistake, Ubuyashiki-sama," she murmured, squeezing her hands into fists on her thighs. "I allowed my emotions to get the best of me, and I failed you."
Sanemi glanced at her.
How... humble.
But, untrue.
He had already heard from Tengen how (Y/N) had acted that evening, and from the way he had described her, Sanemi could gather that she was a force to be reckoned with. He knew that since he had seen it himself. That evening when she had shot forward like a comet in the dark, she was breathtaking. The pure strength she embodied made her practically glow—no, she had been glowing since she was imbued with a power he couldn't even tell was a Blood Demon Art. No matter what (Y/N) said, Sanemi knew she would always act for those around her rather than herself since that was just the kind of person she was.
He couldn't help but like that about her.
Letting his eyes lid as he stared down at his fists resting against his thighs, he knew indubitably that he could not hate her.
