After a week of travel, (Y/N) realized that Enmu was not compatible as a traveling companion, something she knew well beyond before first setting out. He was insufferable and highly arrogant, speaking about humans as if they were just the filth of the world he could walk over whenever he so pleased. Then again, considering humans were nothing but fleeting food sources to him, she realized why his mindset was so twisted to the point it couldn't be unraveled.

It was pitiable, in a sense.

Yet, she had no more pity to give.

"Whatever has made you this way?" (Y/N) scowled one evening as she and Enmu trekked along an open road, field upon fields of crops on either side of them. "Truly, it is confounding."

"Hm?" Enmu smiled creepily.

Her eyes narrowed.

"Oh, it's so adorable when you look at me like that," he chuckled in amusement, delighted at how he could derive such a reaction from her. "But to answer your question, it was Muzan-sama who has given me this wondrous ability. To be a demon is to be at the pinnacle of strength and power. When Muzan-sama encountered me as a human, he granted me the capability to overcome the curse of my weak humanity. To think I played with the flimsy art of hypnosis as a human when now, as a demon, it is so much more wondrous to produce dreams to give agony to those pathetic masses."

"So you were a fake," she uttered after a moment, her revulsion only growing after his confession. "Someone who preyed on the hopes and fears of humans and used that to your advantage. Or am I wrong in this regard?"

"No," he simpered. "You're not at all."

"Meaning nothing's changed."

"Why would I want anything to change?" Enmu scoffed at her comment. "Out of all of the Lower Moons, I am the one still alive. Soon enough, I won't just be a Lower Moon."

"You're confidant."

"I should be."

"And if it doesn't go your way?"

"It will," Enmu snickered. "Because I will make sure no one is standing in my way."

(Y/N) stared at him for a moment before turning and speeding up to walk a few paces in front of him, not being able to bear even being so close to him. Because of that, she didn't notice the way he smirked her way, his gaze boring into the back of her head like it could tell him something only he would know. It struck him that the woman in front of him was contradictory in the sense that, as a demon, she acted anything but demonic.
