"Your loyalty is only to your brother, is that correct?" Akaza questioned of (Y/N) as he stood at the edge of one of the wooden platforms, gazing out at the mass of shifting rooms and implements that never stayed in one place for too long. "I commend such dedication. However, you know it cannot last."

"I know..." she murmured softly, currently sitting beside him, her legs dangling off the edge. "That man won't allow my loyalty directed at anyone else but himself."

"He needs it."

"But... doesn't he have enough?"

"It's not likely."

(Y/N) allowed her eyes to crest, her expression turning bitter as she recalled the absolute control within Muzan's blood-like eyes. What Akaza was saying was true indisputably, and yet, she hoped for something more—something that would give her a glimpse into what could allow her to slip away from Muzan's grasp once more. She couldn't give him any more of herself if she wanted to, for first and foremost, Kenji was the most important person in her life.

And that couldn't just wane.

"That woman you spoke of..." she started softly, immediately gaining Akaza's attention once again since he knew exactly who she was mentioning. "The loyalty you felt for her was what drove you to kill those who had killed her. Then, once you were done, you had no one else to give said loyalty to. That... that is why that man made you a demon. He used your pain... and turned it into a weapon. And that is what is different between us, Akaza. I cannot give all of my loyalty to him, because it is already all for Kenji-san."

Akaza's jaw tightened and un-tightened as he absorbed her words, a deep part of him wondering if she was right.

"Therefore..." he uttered sharply, swallowing down his memories once again. "Whatever I say won't matter. You've already made up your mind, it seems. Muzan-sama will see that as defiance. But that's what you want, isn't it? To die? After everything? I suppose that is another difference between you and I. My pain may have been turned into a weapon, but it is to become stronger. That way, it won't happen again."

He was spiraling, he could tell.

Why did he have to remember her?

Why did he have to recall so much of that pain, and why did he now have to relive it?

He couldn't stand it.

So, he was taking it out on (Y/N).

He knew he shouldn't, but he was regardless.
