"So, why did you do it?" Akaza asked (Y/N), currently the man sitting criss-cross across from her with his arms folded over his broad chest, his gaze kept steady on her face without so much as flinching. "What could have possibly possessed you to disobey the orders given to you?"
"My brother," she murmured in answer.
"You have a brother?" He raised a brow, obviously having not expected that.
"I do," she nodded, squeezing her eyes shut as if talking about him physically pained her, and to some extent, it did. "I was so close to finding him... I could practically see myself reuniting with him. And then... then it was ripped away from me when Douma brought me back here. I miss him so much... and yet it seems as if fate just wants to push us apart."
"It's no wonder, then..." Akaza muttered.
"What is?"
"Ever since I got here, you've been lacking in any energy at all," he exclaimed with a small exhale of breath. "When trying to sense your fighting spirit or bloodlust, I cannot. You retain no will to fight, and it is clear to me."
"I didn't realize you could sense that..."
"It is an enhanced technique beyond the normal range of human perception," Akaza explained with a slight lift of his chin, almost as if he were a teacher lecturing his pupil. "It encompasses a person's will and their intent to kill. Using that, I can assess an opponent's strength or weaknesses, along with being able to detect their presence in any given environment. Which means, I can adapt to any attack or technique. And yet..."
"Hm?"
"If I cannot sense that fighting spirit, it's as if you aren't even there," he muttered, seemingly in vexation. "It is how you were able to wound me during our first battle—well, more so a tussle, because I didn't wish to harm you."
"Only Kyojuro," (Y/N) finished with a frown.
"Whom you defended when you shouldn't have," he continued. "It is unnatural."
"It doesn't matter anymore," she sighed as she pulled her legs up to her chest, resting her cheek against her knees whilst observing the flickering flame in one of the ground lamps lighting up the space. "I don't want to have to fight or protect anyone anymore. I don't want to be involved with the Upper Moons or the Demon Slayer Corps anymore. I just want to be with my brother, whether in death or life, it doesn't matter. He... is the only support I have."
"...you care deeply about him," Akaza pointed out, his eyes glimmering with intrigue.
