Chapter 30 : First fight

That night, Neil found himself completely immersed in the warmth of his family’s love. His mother and Bebe pampered him endlessly with all his favorite dishes, while Kareena made sure to keep him entertained with playful banter. The joy of being surrounded by his loved ones made him lose track of time. By the time he retired to his room, it was already 12:30 a.m. Knowing Avni must be asleep, he decided against messaging or calling her.

The next morning, Avni woke up early, her heart sinking slightly when she saw no message from Neil. She couldn't help but feel a little hurt. He didn’t even let me know he got home safely, she thought. With a sigh, she sent him a simple Good morning and went about her usual routine.

After finishing her yoga session, Avni stepped into the bathroom to shower. When she came out, she noticed her phone screen light up with a reply.

"Good morning, my love. I love you so much."

A smile crept onto her lips, erasing the disappointment from earlier. Without wasting a moment, she called Neil, and he picked up on the first ring.

“Good morning, Avni,” he greeted warmly, his voice dripping with affection.

“Good morning, Neil,” she replied, her voice soft but tinged with a hint of reprimand.

“I’m so sorry I couldn’t message or call you last night,” Neil said before she could bring it up.

“Neil, I understand it was family time,” Avni admitted, though her voice carried the weight of her earlier hurt. “But I was hurt that you didn’t even message after reaching home.”

“I’m really sorry, Avni,” Neil said, his tone earnest and full of guilt.

“Don’t say sorry,” she chided gently. “Just don’t let it happen again, okay?”

“I promise, I won’t,” he vowed.

“Good. Now, I’ll get ready for college and wait for you at the bus stand,” Avni said, her tone brightening.

“Okay, I’ll start getting ready now,” Neil replied, a smile audible in his voice.

With that, they hung up, both feeling a renewed warmth in their hearts. Neil hurried to prepare for the day, determined to make up for the oversight, while Avni hummed a tune, her morning now looking much brighter.

Avni slipped into Neil’s car, and before she could settle in, Neil pulled her into a tight hug.

“I missed you so much, Avu,” he murmured into her hair, his voice filled with affection.

“I missed you too, Neil,” Avni replied softly, her cheeks turning pink as she melted into his embrace.

Neil reluctantly let her go and started the car. As he drove, he reached out, entwined their fingers, and placed her hand gently on his thigh, keeping it there as he drove. Avni smiled but said nothing, savoring the quiet intimacy between them.

When they arrived at college, Neil parked the car, and they walked towards their classroom hand-in-hand. Just as they neared the entrance, they spotted KK standing nearby. Neil shot him a smug, almost territorial smile, one that spoke volumes. KK instantly understood the meaning behind the expression.

Avni gave KK a friendly wave before heading inside. Neil, however, lingered, waiting for KK to approach him.

“I think you got the message I wanted to send,” Neil began, crossing his arms confidently.
