Chapter song: None (sorry people)
We hadn't even made it to his bedroom. Drew was sleeping next to me on his couch in his boxers.
I didn't want to slip out without talking to him, but I had to check on Lily. I started to inch him off of me to find my clothes. I only just realized I was wearing nothing but boxers.
I had pushed him off me and stood when an arm snaked around my waist and dragged me back down.
"Where are you going?" He mumbled into my back. I turned to face him and wrapped my arms around him.
"I need to check on Lily and I have meetings really late tonight so I can be there when she's awake."
He groaned, "That's valid but I still don't want you to go."
"I have to... but if you want you can drop by around nine?"
He responded with a nod then released me to find my clothes.
I glanced back at him one last time before leaving. His hair was tussled from sleep and he looked adorable and warm. I reminded myself that I had real life to get back to and that we weren't leaving forever.
As I entered the apartment, Lily was waiting on the couch grinning up at me like an idiot.
"Who's sneaking in wearing the same clothes from last night?"
"Shut up." I mumbled my face going red.
"My brother got laid!" She yelled. Then Lily thought about what she had just said, "Ew, that's actually gross. But at least it was Drew."
"Fuck you Lil," I called behind me.
"Was it really good? I need details Everett! Don't make me an Aunt! That's kinda impossible... but you get the point!"
I closed my door before she had finished. But this morning and last night's events had put me in a better mood than I had been for a long time.
[Time skip]
Kruz was sitting across from me and we were talking about investments for the next quarter. It wasn't official meeting, but we did work together so we didn't step on any toes and cover our bases. A man that was slightly familiar came in and interrupted us.
"Everett 'Green' O'Brian? You may not remember me, but I'm Milford Rowell. Most just call me Ford. Can I take a moment of your time?" Rowell introduced himself. He had a southern lilt to his words but it was so polite I had barely noticed.
He was an older white man with dark brown hair streaked with gray. Like Medina, he was put together, wearing a blue suit, white dress shirt and a gold watch. The only element that truly set him apart from Medina was his haughty attitude.
"Yes, that's me and I think we're about done here so come in and take a seat."
Kruz left but the look he sent me before shutting the glass door told me he was going to ask about this later.
"I'm sure Carlos has already talked to you about taking his side and endorsing him, but I want you to try and hear me out with no predespicitions."
I nodded but I was probably not going to go with him even if he offered me the sun and the moon. Drew had trusted Medina and I trusted Drew.
***Racism! Trigger Warning!***
"I know Carlos already got his shot at the golden goose but did you know that he's only been here for three years? He fell into a position very similar to yours. He bought his way in by knocking hard working Americans out the way. He isn't even an American!"
"But you? You Green are a hardworking man who earned his place at the table by making smart decisions. You and Carlos are complete opposites. You would never get along if you went with him. Never a second of peace. Cats and dogs would be civil compared to y'all. But if you went with me, we could both make each other real happy."
"What do you say? Get the American dream, you and I? I mean, football is the favorite sport of this great country. If you go with me, I can guarantee you will be my right hand man. Practically my number two. So? We got a deal?"
I pretended to think but the choice was obvious. He thought that we were the same and in some ways we were, except I was definitely not born with a silver spoon five feet down my throat. Also he was clearly racist. He definitely didn't know that Drew and I to got engaged, because if he was racist, he was probably a homophobe. If this was what he said in our first official meeting, imagine what he would do and say if he won the head board seat.
***END OF SECTION***
"Ford, I'm going to have to decline your offer for now. The reasons being A, I know you promised multiple people your 'right hand spot' and I don't feel like being in competition for it. B, Carlos got here the same way as I did, so if you're saying he cheated and knocked people out the way, your saying the same about me. C, I don't like men whose entire argument is putting down the opposition. But thank you and I'll think more on this."
No I wouldn't.
He knew that.
I was never going to change my mind.
He stood to leave and as he opened the door to leave, his phone pinged. As he checked the message, a smile slid across his face.
"After you see the newest evening headlines, you'll change your hand. But I take my offer down from right hand to second hand man. If the news gets worse, third. You have until the next game on Sunday. It's Thursday so you have Friday and Saturday to decide. Good luck handling this. It sure will be a doozy."
I could still hear Ford chuckling as he walked down the hall as my entire world shattered with two sentences.
Everette 'Green' O'Brian and Drew Garcia Caviero's broken engagement.

So... I'm thinking of going on a hiatus after I finish this story. Another one of my co-authors will write a new story and I'll have a bit of time to find new inspiration. What would you like to read? Mafia? Love triangle? Boy Band? I would love to hear some ideas.
