12 YITF, Chapter 27: So this is how it ends

Drew POV -

I woke up with Ev to my back and the sun streaming through my curtains.

I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and turned to face Ev. I had woken him up with my movement.

He draped an arm around my waist and gave me a sleepy smile.

"Good morning," he whispered.

"Morning." I whispered back then reached out and took his dog tag in my hand.

"I still can't believe you kept this. I thought you would have thrown it out, spat on it, or burned it by now."

"I could never get rid of anything you gave me."

He reached over and brushed stray curls out of my face and I leaned into the touch.

"Do you remember when you asked if I still had the ring."

He hummed his acknowledgment and played with my hair absentmindedly.

I turned to the nightstand behind me and opened the drawer. I rummaged for less than a second before feeling the small circle.

I brought it to him and held the ring between my thumb and pointer finger. His hand stopped moving in my hair and came down to rest in the space between us.

I traced the inscription that I had memorized after reading it so many times.

I asked hesitantly, "Would you ever want to try again? Getting married. I know we just fixed things-"

"But it brought up old memories and now you can't stop thinking about it?"

"Yeah. I know it won't be anytime soon. But would it ever be a possibility?"

Ev gently took my face with both hands and gazed at me with a light sparkling behind his eyes.

"I would marry you anytime, anyplace. I don't care what I'm wearing, who's watching, or what anyone else thinks. I want to be with you. Only you."

I brought my face into his neck and wrapped my arms around his neck, mumbling against his skin, "I only want to be with you too."

Ev had dressed in his clothes from last night and I had agreed to take him back to his place to change before going to the Stadium.

It was still pretty early when we entered his apartment, so Lily was fast asleep in her room.

Ev said he would only be a few minutes and to do whatever I wanted until he came back.

I sat on the countertop answering texts and emails on my phone for the few minutes I had to wait.

I gasped when I felt someone kiss my neck.

It was barely a peck, but it felt like 200x that from the hickeys that were all over my neck.

"Ev," I said trying to keep my voice neutral, "We have to go, and your sister is in the other room."

"Good thing you've always been great at being quiet." He whispered, not stopping the attack on my neck.

A small groan escaped my lips and then he stopped and put on his coat like nothing had ever happened which confused the hell out of me. The he looked at me with a cocky expression and shrugged like he wasn't trying to start something 2 seconds ago.
