We had finished the family NDA and Drew had gone home to his apartment. He said he wanted to give Lily some space. She had said we were being 'overbearing mother hens' that morning. But she was not taking withdrawal well, which is completely understandable. But she cried, was floating on cloud nine, and yelled at me in one hour.
When I left she was asleep, and I hoped she would stay that way until I got home. When I opened the door coming from the stadium, Lily was inside watching Bridgerton. She had a cloth on her forehead that was freezing cold to the touch.
"How'd the meeting go?" She rasped.
"Good," I replied hesitantly, "what happened to your voice?"
"I have eaten or drank anything in a day or two so my throat is a little dry."
"Two days? You need to drink something!" I went to the kitchen and grabbed a water bottle from the fridge.
She took the water bottle but made no move to open it. "It won't stay down for long. Neither will the chills or the fever."
"Should I take you to the hospital? It feels like this is getting worse,"
"I'll be fine Ev. No one said this would be easy. I can't crack for three days after my last drink. The first three days are supposed to be the hardest and if I can make it past three, I can do anything."
She took a small sip of the water and forced a smile that was more of a grimace.
There wasn't much more I could do, so I left my door open, and collapsed onto my bed.

I had taken off Saturday for the thing I had been dreading.
I stared at myself for over ten minutes in the morning. All I could hear was the comments.
F*ggot.
Disgusting.
Unholy.
You never know how dark humanity can get until they have freedom to say whatever they want without consequences.
"Are you ready to see them yet?" Lily yelled, snapping me out of my trance.
"Yeah, I'm ready. Lil, I know you said you don't want to see them but-" She entered the bathroom and held up a hand to silence me.
"They're not my parents anymore. My parents would love my brother who has done nothing but be there for me my entire life. My biological mother and father do not care about my brother and have sacrificed their relationship with me. If they want to be part of my life, they have to earn their way back into yours."
