The weeks started to fly past after Diana and George fixed their relationship. George same to see her at least two or three times a week. It would have been more if Mrs. Weasley didn't insist on leaving Fred alone in the apartment. Now they sat at the order meeting they were having once ever two weeks at the Burrow.
"Listen to this." Tonks said, throwing down a newspaper in the middle of the kitchen table. Mr. Weasley picked it up his lips tightening as his eyes glanced over the headline.
"The Ministry of Magic is undertaking a survey of so called 'Muggle borns,' to better understand how they posses their magic. Research from the Department of Mysteries reveals that wizards or witches only get magic by it being passed down. Every muggleborn will be brought to the ministry and asked a set of questions, as to understand how they stole-"
"Stole magic?" Diana breathed, raising her eyebrows.
"They have to be losing their minds." George said, putting a protective hand on Diana's leg.
"This is another one of there schemes to try and convince more people to join their side." Remus said, between sips of tea. "It's not going to work, it's going to just drive more people to hide."
"Has anyone heard of Harry?" She asked instead.
"He's at Sirius's house. I saw him there a couple weeks ago." Remus said quietly, staring daggers into the kitchen table.
"What's he doing?"
"Not sure, they wouldn't say."
"How is Ron?" George asked, using his thumb to rub little circles into her thigh.
"He's okay. Seems a little tired." George nodded, looking anything but relieved.
"At least he's with Harry," Mrs. Weasley said, twisting her hands in her apron. "I just wish they'd send word. I can't stand not knowing if they're eating properly—or if they're even safe."
"They can't risk it, Molly," Arthur said gently. "Any owl could be tracked now. The Ministry's under their control completely."
Tonks leaned forward, her face pale despite the flicker of the fire. "That's why this Muggle-born survey is so dangerous. They're not asking questions—they're making lists. It's a way to round people up."
Remus nodded grimly. "They'll claim it's for research, but the goal is intimidation. We've already heard of people disappearing before they ever make it to the Ministry."
Diana felt her chest tighten. "Then it's only a matter of time before they come for me."
George turned to her, his hand firm on her leg. "They're not going to touch you. I won't let them."
She wanted to believe him. She really did. But the walls of the Burrow, once warm and full of laughter, now felt like they were closing in.
"We need to start hiding people sooner," Remus said, looking around the table. "Anyone Muggle-born or connected to Harry is at risk."
"I can help," Diana said quietly. "Maybe reach out to the ones who used to work at St. Mungo's—some of them are already in hiding."
Tonks gave her a small, approving nod. "That could make a difference. If they've gone underground, they'll need supplies."
Mrs. Weasley sighed, setting down her teacup with trembling hands. "We shouldn't have to live like this."
"No," Arthur agreed softly. "But we have to survive it."
The room fell into heavy silence. The fire popped, and outside the wind rattled the windows. Somewhere in the distance, an owl hooted—a reminder that even the night wasn't safe anymore.
Finally, Remus cleared his throat. "We'll meet again in two weeks. Same time, same precautions. Until then, stay unseen."
One by one, the members disapparated, leaving only George and Diana by the fire. He brushed a strand of hair from her face.
"You really think they'll come for you?" he asked quietly.
Diana hesitated, staring into the flames. "I don't think they'll stop until they do."
George pulled her closer, his voice steady but low. "Then they'll have to get through me first."
For a moment, it almost felt safe again. Almost.
