Ody's mind raced with countless scenarios. Why would Mano talk to Kash? Especially after what happened in the restrooms, when Mano left him behind.
"I don't know," he said thoughtfully. "Maybe they were arguing?"
"No, they weren't arguing. They were just... talking" Steve replied, just as puzzled.
"Anything else happen?"
"No clue, man. We left" his best friend said, leaving Ody staring into space.
"What's up? Something wrong?" Steve asked, snapping Ody out of it.
"No, nothing's wrong. Let's get going" Ody replied before they headed back to the others to start the game.
Later, when he got home, he couldn't stop thinking about what Steve had said. Mano and Kash talking? It was strange. But there's no way something shady could be happening behind his back. His mind spiraled with theories—even wondering if Mano had been Kash's friend all along and the whole situation was a setup to control him.
Get a grip, Ody. You know Mano, he's not like that...
Suddenly, he remembered his girlfriend's words.
[Since when is he your friend?
What do you mean?
What do I mean? You've known him like ten days. You're so picky about your friends
You've got him all wrong. So do Steve and Chris
Okay... So the guy who nearly killed me when we went out is suddenly your friend?
I told you he's not the guy you met
And who is he?
He's been through a lot. Can you trust me? I know when someone's solid and when they're not
Okay baby if you say so. I just don't like that some people beat him up. Who knows what kind of people he's hanging out with or who he's mixed up with... Be careful]
What are you even thinking, idiot? You saw him covered in blood with your own eyes. There is no way that kind of betrayal is possible...
He convinced himself it wasn't what he had initially suspected.
But for some reason, Mano had spoken to Kash. And Ody needed to know why.
He got into his car and drove to Hymettus. He parked outside Mano's apartment building, just when someone exited so he slipped inside.
He started climbing the stairs, scanning the doorbells since he didn't know which floor Mano lived on. When he reached the second floor, he found it. Mano Jones. He rang the doorbell and waited.
Mano placed his guitar on the couch and stood up. He walked to the door, peered through the peephole, and saw Ody. It was the last person he expected to see.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, startled and uneasy as he opened the door.
"Can I come in?" Ody's serious tone and expression made Mano even more nervous.
He stepped aside, letting Ody in. As Ody entered, he took in the surroundings. The dark furniture made the place feel clean and organized but far too spacious for a student apartment.
He noticed the guitar with a notebook resting on the couch before Mano's voice interrupted his thoughts.
"Did something happen? Did they hurt you?"
