Ody's green eyes stayed fixed on Mano as he tried to make sure he heard him right.

"My personal... bodyguard?"

Mano just looked at him, not commenting. "Come on, let's go" he turned to walk away.

"Maybe you shouldn't come inside" Ody stopped him and he turned to look him up and down.

"Why?"

"If my friends see you and realize I didn't bring my car, they're gonna ask questions. I can't tell them the truth"

Mano's expression changed when he guessed what Ody was implying. "You mean... your friends don't know what those assholes are doing to you?"

"Before you got involved, they didn't really do anything that bad" he replied calmly, but Mano's face turned serious as he looked away, clenching his jaw.

"Sorry... I know you did it to help me, but now I'm in more danger. Before they just... messed with me" Ody looked down, feeling bad for saying that.

With his jaw clenched and eyes elsewhere, Mano nodded slightly, annoyed.

"Anyway... thanks for---"

"Yeah, yeah, just get to class" Mano cut him off, waving dismissively toward the building, clearly wanting him to leave.

Ody could tell Mano was upset, though he hadn't brought his car because Mano was supposed to give him a ride back. Now he looked pissed. Ody walked past him, deciding to let him off the hook.

"I'll head home with the guys. Thanks for the ride" he said, leaving Mano standing there with a serious expression.

He replied to his girlfriend's message and went into the building. He saw Steve and Chris outside the classroom with some other students.

"Hey, man!" they greeted him with a handshake.

"What's up? Good morning"

They went into the classroom, and two hours later, they were getting ready to leave.

"Movie night, huh? I've got a date tonight" Steve said.

"Oh yeah? With who?" Ody asked as they walked past the parking lot, heading for the bus stop.

"With that girl I told you guys about, Danae. We're going out tonight"

"Why are you heading this way?" Chris asked Ody.

"Didn't bring the car today. I'm taking the bus"

"Why didn't you bring the car?" they wondered.

"Um... Took it in for a service"

"Something wrong with it?"

"Nah, just routine"

"Oh, okay. So, what were you saying?" Chris turned back to Steve.

The two of them took the metro, while Ody reached his house by bus.

He walked in and laid down on the dark blue couch as sunlight poured in from the balcony doors.

Did he talk too harshly to Mano? Yeah, if Mano hadn't spilled coffee on Kash, they wouldn't have hit him. He'd just be left with a stained shirt. No big deal. But once Mano got involved, they beat him up in the restrooms. And after the last incident, who knows what they had planned for him. Still, Mano only did it to help him. He didn't mean to make things worse.
