"What's the matter with you?" Mum asked as I sat across from her at dinner. Dad was working late. I glanced at her over my glass.
"Nothing." I tried to shake her. She rolled her eyes.
"Elenora." I was fairly certain only mothers were capable of that tone. I set my glass down and sighed.
"You said Dumbledore knew, why didn't he do anything? He's supposed to help us, he literally refused to help you, to save Uncle James, Aunt Lily, and Harry. Why aren't you more angry?" She smiled softly.
"He's a traditional man, sunshine. He believes once a prophecy is set in place it's not our place to mess with it."
"They would have died!" Mum nodded as she chewed her food.
"It doesn't make sense and it's shitty. I came to terms with that a long time ago baby. I've never claimed to understand the ways in which he thinks, I don't respect it nor do I agree with him most of the time. My biggest problem is that he helped raise us and then sent us off to slaughter. We were just a child army for him, a group of kids who knew no better." She stopped to take a deep breath. "I fought for him though, he led us into battle and we made it out on the other side, so yeah, he sucks and I have a lot of feelings towards him. Put your dad, your uncles and aunts, me and your grandparents on the front lines, I lost a lot of people because of him, I'll never forgive that. All I can do going forward is make sure it doesn't happen to you guys."
"What about Harry?" She sighed.
"You can't always change a prophecy. I did what I could. I'll do what I can going forward."
"I'm scared." I admitted. She smiled sadly.
"Me too, sunshine."
🗡️🗡️🗡️
"How do we change it?" Rosie asked as she stood in the doorway to my room. I looked up confused, I really needed to figure out how she kept getting in here.
"Change what?" I asked. Pansy peered over her shoulder at us from her bed where she was trying to nap.
"The prophecy. Our parents changed it once, we can change it again." Her voice didn't waver, she knew there was a way to change it. The only problem was she thought I held the answer. I sighed.
"I don't know, Rosie." I admitted with the shake of my head. She let herself in and sat on my bed. Pansy rolled over fully to face us.
"Can we talk to Dumbledore?" She asked. Pansy scoffed.
"And say what, Rose? Hey we know our family ignored you years ago, but now we're here to do the same time. Any advice?"
"I've never fucked with a prophecy before, Parkinson. If you have experience I'd love your input." Rosie shot back. Pansy sat up.
"That's enough!" I told them. The both slumped back. "We're sure as shit not going to change anything if we're all fighting."
"Is that why you forgave Theo? Is he a secret weapon?" Pansy poked. I glared at her. It was a cheap blow.
"I forgave Theo because he's our friend." I reminded her. She rolled her eyes.
"We were getting on just fine without him."
"Maybe you can shut everyone out and ignore them, but I can't Pansy. He was my best friend."
"He screwed you over."
"I know that." I spit out through gritted teeth. She backed off.
"And I'm trying, but he didn't have to watch you cry. I did. I'm your best friend. Not him." I nodded.
"You are my best friend." She nodded.
"So how are we going to save your stupid cousin?"
