Ash's POV

I woke up in the early morning. It wasn't really waking up, though. I was just lying in bed the whole time, unable to sleep because I kept thinking of Serena and the dance happening today. Clemont and Korrina had helped me choose some clothes yesterday to wear in the event. I rose up from my bed and went to eat breakfast. After that, I showered and then tried out the clothes we'd bought.

It was a blue-coloured coat, with some lines of black running along the sides and forming a triangular shape in the middle of the chest, where a white shirt was. For the rest of my outfit, I wore a pair of pants which were of the same colour and a couple of sleek black shoes. I tried styling my hair a few times, but I wasn't satisfied and just combed my hair downwards. I was very excited to attend the ball, especially with Serena as my partner. Now, I just had to wait.

I removed my outfit as the event was still in the late afternoon. I put back my usual clothes on and tried to entertain myself by watching the TV. However, I couldn't really focus on it, and I started to drift to sleep.

Serena's POV

I couldn't sleep. I was awake the entire night because Ash's actions at the reopening party kept replaying in my head. I had kept thinking about him since it. My heart felt like it was about to explode out of the joy and the happiness I felt. I couldn't help but scream a little because of all the emotions I felt. I felt hopeful that Ash actually liked me back.

I looked at the costume I had hanging on the coat rack. It was a black blouse, covered from the sides by a white dress with the blue ribbon sitting squarely in the middle of the chest area. I remained wondering if Ash would like it. It certainly seemed to fit a Kalos Queen, so he would probably like it. The longer I spent without answers, the more nervous I got. I can only imagine what would happen when I tell him about my feelings for him.

I had told May and Lisia about my plans, and they'd been very supportive of it. I felt even more motivated today. Why, I don't know. Maybe it was because Ash was here, or the things he did at the event? Whatever it was, it gave me a huge push to tell him. After all, this could be my last chance.

I decided to pick up my phone and call May to help me calm down. She'd been a bit busy this week, but she said I could call her for support if I needed it.

"So, today's the day, huh?", she asked as soon as she picked up.

"Yeah, it definitely is.", I said with a hint of panic in my voice.

"You're panicking again, aren't you?"

"Yeah. To be honest, I don't know how to tell him."

"Just say what you want to say. Remember what I did when I told Drew about my feelings?"

"Yeah, right. Yours is different, though."

"How so?"

"Well, it was obvious to me that he had a crush on you ever since you won that contest of yours. Ash is different. He's vague, if you know what I mean. I don't even know if he likes me or not.", I complained.

"Well, judging by everything you told me these past couple of days, I'd say he does like you."

"Yeah, I hope so.", I said.

"Well, gotta go. I have a little date with Drew today. Bye and good luck!", May said as she hung up the phone.

I felt better after that. I looked outside the window, seeing that there weren't many people yet, as it was working hours on a weekend. Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door.

"Hi, Serena.", Ash greeted me.

"Oh, um, hello."

"So, uh, can I take you out to lunch today?"
