Lucario's POV 

I started discreetly going through the city. I had communicated with Sylveon that we would meet in Lumiose. Both of us had something to tell each other about our Trainers, who we both sensed were deeply sad.

"Is it true, Lucario?", she asked.

"Is it true that what?"

"That your Trainer doesn't love mine anymore."

"It isn't, Sylveon. Ash still loves Serena."

"Well then explain why he broke up with her."

"It's a long story, Sylveon."

"I don't care how long it is! Just tell me the reason. I want to know why he made my Trainer so sad. After all that happened, I still don't understand, Lucario."

"Well, the day Serena and Ash broke up, my Trainer got abducted by Team Flare."

"Team Flare? Didn't they disband a few years ago?"

"Well, that's what my Trainer thought as well, but he was wrong."

"So what happened?"

"My Trainer was kidnapped, and as part of a deal to protect your Trainer, he...had to break up with her."

"Did you see what that did to my Trainer? She stayed awake for hours, weeping and crying because of what he did! Why didn't he just tell her? He would have spared her the heartbreak!", Sylveon stated angrily.

"I know, Sylveon, but there was no guarantee. My Trainer was too worried about yours. He himself is in pain. You have to understand. He had no power. It would be a far worse situation if your Trainer perished, after all."

"I'm sorry, Lucario. I may have been too insensitive. But I care about my Trainer. She is just a little girl even at this point. She's fragile. That's why your Trainer breaking up with her was painful for me. I didn't want to see her like that."

"I'm sure Ash didn't want that either, but in the end, there was nothing he could do. It's not like he could defeat Team Flare by himself."

"I don't know, Lucario. You sound like you're defending him."

"Because I am defending him! He experienced pain and guilt and sadness. Isn't that enough?!"

"I'm just want to make my Trainer happy, that's all. It pains me to see her in that condition."

"Sylveon, I'm sure Ash does, too. I know him. He puts all the blame on himself. He hates himself because of it."

"I just want them to come back together."

Suddenly, I sensed something bad was happening to Ash. Soon, Sylveon noticed something was off about Serena as well. Both of us rushed to check it out, with us ending up in the outskirts of Geosenge Town.

I held my arm out and stopped Sylveon from going further. There was something suspicious about the area, and I was worried that there was something dangerous. There was a tall tower sticking out in the middle of the town, casting an ominous shadow over the area below. 

"Let's wait before we go, Sylveon. I have a bad feeling about this.", I told her.

"Thank you. You are my knight, aren't you?", she said.

I felt my cheeks heat up at the compliment, but I shook it off.

Ash's POV 

"That won't be needed, Calem.", a feminine voice suddenly said.

Then, she entered. Quite recognizable.

"Malva of the Elite Four?!"

"It is me, Ketchum."

"What are you doing here?!"

She ignored me and turned to Calem.

"Can you leave us for a minute, please?"

She then turned to us, her eyes spewing hate.

"Oh, what am I doing here? Yeah, that's right. I am the new leader of Team Flare, which you have tried to extinguish many years ago. But now, we rise again. And this time, we will become rulers of the Kalos region."

"Why do you keep doing this?! Don't you realize how many lives will be lost if you decide to go with your plan?!", I said.

"Don't you realize as well?! That is the point. There are many blemishes in this ugly and pathetic world of ours, and they must be removed. Exterminated. Just so it will become beautiful again."

"The world is beautiful as is! It's not your choice to remove innocent people just because you don't like them!"

"But it is, you fake World Monarch! A true World Monarch controls the planet, not an immature nineteen-year-old! I have the option to exterminate all who are not part of Flare, and I have invoked my right to do so! I have the power, and you are hopeless. You have no power here!", she shouted, her voice echoing across the room. 

Unexpectedly, Serena stood up, ready to say something.

"How did you even make Calem loyal to you?! You are a monster of a person, and if it helps, you should be the one exterminated!", she yelled.

I was a bit startled at the hatred coming out of her voice. It was the first time I'd heard her shout like that since Snowbelle. 

Lucario's POV 

We waited for a bit before sneaking into the large and imposing structure. It was a bit scary, especially for the normally soft-willed Sylveon, but we braved it. After all, our Trainers were very important to us, and we would not ever want to lose them.

We entered the door, with Sylveon putting the guards to sleep so we could run past them. However, I stopped her again, as three Houndoom barricaded the entrance to the main tower. Soon, we found another way through and successfully breached the security system, but we still had to be on high alert.

"I hope our Trainers are okay.", Sylveon said to me.

"I hope so, too. Come on, the way is from here.", I said as I pointed to my right.

As we drew nearer, we could hear them in the room opposite where we were. They were arguing with someone.

We would need to spot the perfect opportunity so we could save them.

It would be hard, but we would do it for the sake of our Trainers.

Serena's POV 

My blood was boiling after Malva started mocking Ash. I wanted to slap her in the face. 

"Do you really want to know the answer to that question?", she said in a teasing tone.

"Yes!", I shouted angrily.

"It's simple, really. His girlfriend is sick and bedridden. Team Flare pays his girlfriend's medical bills and keeps him employed. He thinks we are the kindest people on the planet. Little does he know, we were the one who gave his girlfriend the mysterious illness she has. She will die, yes, but that would be a small price for Team Flare's victory.", she stated with a smug grin, almost proudly.

My anger was uncontrollable. My hatred of her only grew stronger. But what no one expected was who spoke next.

"Malva...what did you say?!", Calem roared, with his eyes filled with murderous intent.
