I walked into the house, the door slamming shut behind me. Matteo was already pacing in the living room, his face red with anger.

As soon as he saw me, he snapped.

"How could you do this?" he spat, voice full of fury. "After everything she's done to me—to us—you still choose to run to her?"

I ran a hand through my hair, trying to stay calm, but the weight of everything from earlier was still heavy on my chest. "All I did was help her, Matteo. She called me. She needed help. What the hell was I supposed to do? Ignore her?"

Matteo stepped closer, glaring at me with rage. "Yes! You should've ignored her! All she's done is try to tear me apart—tear us apart. She's done nothing but destroy everything we've worked for, and you just... go running to her when she calls?"

I clenched my jaw, frustration boiling inside me. "I didn't go running to her, Matteo. I was helping her. She's been going through a lot. Do you even get that?"

He scoffed, shaking his head. "She's doing this to you. She's messing with your head. And you're letting her drag you back in like this? You know what she did to you, right? What she did to me?"

I felt my heart clench in my chest. "I'm not blind, Matteo. I know what she did to you. But that doesn't change the fact that she's in pain right now—and I wasn't gonna abandon her. Not when she's been through all of this."

He let out a frustrated growl, pacing again. "You're still playing the hero for her? After all this?"

"No Matteo," I snapped, stepping closer. "But she didn't deserve what happened to her. And I'm not gonna stand here while you act like she's the villain, okay?"

Matteo's face twisted with anger, but he didn't say anything else for a moment. The tension in the room was thick, both of us standing there, barely holding on.

I couldn't believe this was happening, but I couldn't take back what I'd done. I would never let Sabrina go through something like that alone again.

I turned away, running a hand through my hair again. "I can't change what happened. But I'm not gonna apologize for trying to do the right thing."

Matteo was silent, but I could see the fury in his eyes. We were standing on opposite sides, and I knew we weren't going to see eye to eye anytime soon.

But I also knew there was nothing I could do to change my mind.

Matteo's voice dropped, and the words hit me harder than I expected. "How could you do this to Sabrina?" he whispered, his voice raw with emotion.

I swallowed hard, the guilt weighing down on me. "I know I messed up, okay?" I ran a hand through my hair, trying to keep my composure. "I never meant for any of this to happen."

Matteo shook his head, his eyes hard and unforgiving. "She's not gonna forgive you, Julian."

His words were sharp, cutting through the air. "You've lost her."
