The tension in the car was suffocating. I couldn't stop my knee from bouncing, my hands clenching into fists.
Every second felt like a year.
My mind was spinning with possibilities, but none of them made sense.
"Think," Matteo said, gripping the wheel so hard his knuckles turned white. "Who the hell would do this? Who's got a reason to come after Sabrina?"
"Marco," Val said from the backseat, her voice tight. "He's been too quiet. You know he's still pissed after... everything."
Matteo scoffed, shaking his head. "Marco wouldn't dare. Not after what I did to him. He knows better than to come for me—or anyone close to me."
I let out a harsh breath, staring out the window. Marco could be reckless, but Matteo was right.
He wasn't stupid enough to pick a fight he couldn't win.
Still, my chest was tight, my anger rising. "Even if it was him, why Sabrina? He's got no reason to touch her."
"Maybe it's not about her," Val said quietly. "Maybe it's about you. Or Matteo."
Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. Of course, this wasn't about Sabrina.
It was about me—about us—and she was just caught in the crossfire. The thought made my stomach churn.
Sabrina didn't deserve any of this.
"Camilla?" Val suggested hesitantly.
I snapped my head toward her, glaring. "She wouldn't do this."
Val raised an eyebrow, her voice sharp now. "You sure about that? She's manipulative as hell, Julian. She doesn't like Sabrina, and we all know it."
"She wouldn't," I said firmly, my voice leaving no room for argument.
Val leaned back, crossing her arms. "If you say so. But I'm telling you, don't underestimate her. She might not hurt Sabrina herself, but she wouldn't stop someone else from doing it."
"Enough," Matteo growled. "We're wasting time. We need to move."
I bit back my frustration, my hands tightening into fists. "Lorenzo," I said.
Matteo's head snapped toward me. "What about him?"
"Lorenzo," I repeated, anger boiling in my veins. "You know he's been waiting for a reason to strike. After what happened with Val—"
"Son of a bitch," Matteo muttered, his grip on the wheel tightening. "He would. He'd do it just to piss me off."
"We need to check his warehouses," I said, my voice sharp.
Matteo nodded, turning the wheel sharply. "We'll start there."
Val didn't say anything, but I could feel her tension from the backseat. My mind raced, thinking about Sabrina, alone and terrified.
