I thought my apology would work, but clearly, it didn't

I thought my apology would work, but clearly, it didn't. The way Sabrina had walked away from me, that coldness in her eyes, made it painfully clear that I had a lot of damage to repair.

Frustrated and a little lost, I grabbed a water bottle from the cooler and headed outside, knowing she had gone that way.

I tossed the water bottle her way, trying to keep things casual. "You should drink some water," I said, forcing a lightness into my tone.

She catches it, looking down as she twists the cap off. "Thanks," she mutters, barely above a whisper.

The silence settles between us like a wall, but I can't keep it up anymore. I take a step closer, then stop, running a hand over the back of my neck.

"Look... Sabrina, I know I've been a jerk. For the past month, maybe longer, and I'm... I'm really sorry." My voice cracks a little, and I hate that I'm suddenly nervous. I've always been able to talk to her, but this is different.

She still doesn't say anything, and for a second, I think she might just walk away. But then, a small, almost reluctant smile tugs at her lips.

It's barely there, but it gives me the push I need to keep going.

"If it's worth anything," I add quietly, "I really miss my best friend."

She looks at me then, really looks, and for the first time in a while, there's something in her expression that isn't just hurt or anger.

She lets out a breath and whispers, "I missed you too."

It's like a weight lifts, and before I know it, I'm pulling her into a hug. She doesn't hesitate, wrapping her arms around me just as tightly.

I close my eyes, holding her close, and everything that felt broken starts to piece itself together in that hug. It's comforting, more than I can put into words.

I feel her take a deep breath, and I'm hoping she feels it too—that we're maybe, just maybe, finding our way back.

After a few moments, I pull back slightly, but keep my arms around her, just enough so I can look at her.

"So..." I start, trying to sound casual, "you wanna go to the ball with me tonight?"

She raises an eyebrow, looking a little surprised, then that soft smile spreads across her face again as she nods.

"Sure," she says, and I can't help but grin back, feeling like things are finally, finally falling into place.

Heading back inside with Julian, I felt a renewed excitement bubbling up. Tonight's ball wasn't just another event—it was something I'd get to experience with Julian.

For the first time in weeks, things actually felt right again. Julian had this way of bringing out the best in me, and after all the tension, I was just... happy.

As we stepped into the warehouse, I glanced around, catching Val's curious stare. She raised an eyebrow, shooting me a look that clearly said, What happened?

I couldn't help but smile, giving her a quick nod. Everything was finally good with Julian and me, and the weight of it all felt like it had lifted.

Val returned my smile with a grin of her own, understanding without needing words.

"Alright," I said, turning back to the boxes. Julian joined in, and together, we started the task again. The work went by faster this time, and I felt lighter, talking and laughing between each box we moved.

As we finished up, I turned to Val, who was rubbing her shoulder dramatically. "Hey, I'll drop you off at home," I offered, grabbing my bag from the corner.

Val's face lit up. "Yes, please! I am so done with today."

Matteo raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "Drama queen," he muttered, shaking his head. "You barely lifted anything."

Val shot him a mock glare. "That's easy for you to say—you're not the one lugging boxes after already surviving a full day of torture."

I laughed, rolling my eyes at both of them. "Alright, alright. Come on, Val. I've got you covered."

She looped her arm through mine as we headed out the door, leaving Matteo behind to finish up.

Once outside, Val gave me a look, clearly curious about what had just gone down with Julian.

"And?" she asked, grinning. "Everything good now?"

I nodded, a smile spreading across my face. "Yeah, everything's good."

As we walked toward my car, I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement for tonight.

Things were finally falling into place, and I had a feeling that tonight's ball was going to be unforgettable.
