After work, Sara and Taylor walked to their shared apartment, talking about their day. 'So what group did you work on today?' I got to do TXT Yeonjun's makeup today!, he is so much hotter in real life' Taylor said. Sara shrugged, she is used to Taylor fawning over Kpop idols, but she was never interested in it.
'I got to do Seventeen Dino's makeup, they were a lot of members.' Sara said like it was nothing. Taylor stood there in shock. 'You did WHOSE MAKEUP???' Taylor screamed excitedly. 'Sara do you realize this is the Kpop group I've been talking about for such a long time!?, the songs we were listening to on our way here are from them!!' Sara was never invested--until now.
'So... what was the song they played in the car?' Sara asked, trying to remember the melody that had stuck in her head. She started humming the song. 'Oh you mean "If You Leave Me"?' It's one of the new-ish ones, it's a fan favorite' Taylor grinned , recognizing the melody immediately. 'You're into it, huh?'
Sara shrugged, feeling a little embarrassed. 'I guess... it's a really sad song.' She wasn't used to talking about music like this--especially not in a way that felt so personal. The song had made her feel things she hadn't expected. She wasn't sure why it hit her so hard, but when the chorus came in, she felt her eyes prickle with tears. She had to laugh it off.
'It's just a song', Sara said, trying to keep it light. 'I don't even know what I'm crying about.'
Taylor raised an eyebrow. 'I told you is like the most heart-wrenching thing ever. I totally get it. But you know, you've never been in a relationship right? Maybe that's why you're emotional. You haven't had the heartache to match the song yet.'
Sara chuckled, wiping her eyes. 'Maybe you're right. But I don't get it. Why does it feel like I get it now, even though I've never been in a relationship before?'
'That's just how music is, specially their songs.' Taylor replied with a knowing smile. 'It taps into something you didn't even know was there.'
Sara nodded, sitting down on the couch. She pulled out her phone and started listening to more of Seventeen's songs. 'They have so many genres.' Sara thought. She typed "If You Leave Me" on the search bar, and started listening to the song again, feeling all the emotions she had before. 'Maybe I'll never understand it,' Sara mumbled, smiling a little. But the feeling didn't fade. It was there, lingering, like the quiet hope that someday she might find what the song was about.
