Asami worked endlessly for days, up all night, barely sleeping, barely eating, growing more and more frustrated the longer she was away from Korra. She wiped away beads of sweat off her head, continuing to weld the metal sheets before her.
"Asami, you need to sleep," Lin was in the workshop with her, not trusting anyone else aside from Mako to keep a lookout, but the fire bender was currently off the clock, getting rest, just like Asami should be.
Asami continued to work, replying absently, "I'll sleep when Korra is back."
"In order to successfully save her, you need to be able to function. We need you kid, we can't afford any screwups."
Asami snapped, "I won't screw up! I don't need sleep! I need to complete these devices!"
Lin shook her head, crossing her arms, "Asami, whether I have to force you to eat and sleep or you do it of your own free will, it will be done, make no mistake," Her nose scrunched up in disgust, "And when is the last time you showered?"
Asami, clenched her jaw, turning to the chief, "I'll sleep when Korra is back."
Lin prepared herself to forcefully remove the CEO, but Varrick burst through the door looking well-rested, exclaiming, "Don't worry friends! I've arrived and I'm ready to work!"
Varrick sniffed the air near Asami, "What is that smell?"
Lin cockily looked toward Asami who threw down her tools, stomping toward Lin angrily, "Okay, fine! But I'm coming right back!"
"Four hours, Asami. Sleep for at least four hours, and I won't bother you again. Do you think you can do that?" Lin asked.
Asami muttered profanities under her breath giving the chief a curt nod.
"Okay then, let's go."
On their way back to the mansion, Asami started to feel the brunt of her exhaustion, stumbling a bit. Lin reached out to grab her arm to steady her but Asami swatted at her hand, "Don't."
Lin rolled her eyes, "Whatever you say."
Once they arrived, Asami rushed inside the house, immediately heading upstairs.
"Asami," At Kuvira's voice, she paused, looking back at the earthbender who stood next to Naga watching her worriedly, "You okay?"
Asami ignored her, continuing on her way.
"Well, if you need anything, I'll be posted outside your door."
Asami only sighed, making it to her room. She shut the door, stripped, and took a much-needed shower before changing into a pair of shorts and a tank top, heading to sit on the edge of the bed.
"Korra, I hope you're okay," She said to herself, rubbing her temples.
"Don't worry, she's fine. . . for now."
Asami shot to her feet, turning to face the all too familiar voice, "You."
The waterbender laughed, "Yes, me."
It was the woman who attacked Korra and Asami a few weeks back, "What are you doing here? Where's Korra?" Asami approached her, almost falling over.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk," The water bender met Asami halfway, lifting her chin, looking over Asami in disappointment, "I never thought I'd see you so. . . weak. You know, eight hours of sleep is recommended for a sharp mind and a healthy body. You look terrible."
"Where. Is. Korra?" Asami seethed.
"Alive and well for now, but that can change at any moment," The woman smirked, "Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you unfortunately."
