Korra felt the moment the spirit energy collided with her avatar state. At first, she was hesitant to let herself let go, but something told her she must, that she would be okay.
She felt the stinging from where she got stabbed but the feeling soon turned into a dull ache, barely noticeable as her body was pulled up by the energy that surrounded her. Images flashed in her mind, reminding her what there was to stay alive for, and there was so much to stay alive for.
Her number one reason, Asami.
The woman that brought out a different side to her, the one that sees past every lie, every insecurity, every doubt and just sees her. She doesn't just see the avatar, but who Korra is inside, she sees her heart and her mind, and she loves her for it. She couldn't give up on that kind of love, she wouldn't.
She felt the air shift around her body, as memories started to flash through her mind, the air circling her like a tornado ready to pull her into the stratosphere. She saw flashes of the spirit world, the tree of time, the first time she met Mako, Bolin, and Asami. Her fights with all her major foes but then, they faded away from her mind and from her memories, the feeling of being so light taking over instead.
Korra wanted to keep fighting, but the feeling was so welcoming. The faces she knew and loved were erased from her mind as she succumbed to the airy bliss, more than happy to remain feeling this way forever.
There was something about the spirit energy this time that felt so different, so freeing. She felt drawn to it, like she could be around it forever, just like this. Maybe if she just allowed herself to relax and take it in, to let go of everything and finally be able to relax and have peace. . .
Peace, she thought. She was ready, so ready to give in completely, but images and voices started breaking through once more, almost forcefully, like someone was pushing them onto her, warning her not to give in.
She saw memories that felt like her own, but definitely weren't. . .
Her past lives. . .
The connection was still broken, but they will always be a part of her, their lives are hers as well and she welcomed the feeling of being connected to them even if it was short-lived.
The strongest memories she has, are those of Aang, seeing how he was the avatar right before her, so she focused on his, letting herself get lost in them while her avatar state attempted to heal her, and the spirit energy was still strong.
'Just a few more minutes of this bliss, and I'll finally be free, it'll all finally be over,' Korra relaxed into an aura around her, thinking that this was it, and she wouldn't even mind.
As soon as she had that thought though, she felt that push again, that force, telling her that she couldn't go, that she needed to stay.
She heard a voice, a kid's voice, and judging by the the topic of conversation, she knew it was one of Aang's memories, the image is blurry, but the voices were clear as day. . .
"What? Why would I let go of Katara? I-I love her," Aang's voice rang out, echoing around her.
"Learn to let her go, or you cannot let the pure cosmic energy flow in from the universe," Korra heard an older man respond.
"Why would I choose cosmic energy over Katara? How could it be a bad thing that I feel an attachment to her?"
Aang's voice faded away and Korra tried to think about the meaning behind that memory and why it stung her heart.
Another memory voiced itself, the feeling of warmth took over. . .
"Aang, everyone's watching," By the feeling Korra got from that voice she knew it was a much younger Katara, the blurry memory shows both her and Aang seemingly somewhere dim and warm.
