'you're starrin' in my dreams'

"give me 10 more minutes!" the blonde dressed in a mint green dress shouted from inside the bathroom as if she hadn't been saying this for the past 30 minutes. "you don't know what minutes are, leni!" lana shouted from behind lynn who just groaned and rested her head back against the wall.

every day she thought about what made their parents think it was smart to only have one bathroom when there were 13 people living in the house.

at this point she was used to the 30 minute bathroom line that made her late to school almost every day. her teachers weren't always too excited about this, or never really. somehow today she managed to get there in time and get herself a decent seat in the middle of the room.

the black haired girl who had been catching her eye lately wasn't in class, leaving an open spot in front of her. the teacher wasn't having the usual poetry talk like she had done the past 50 lessons. instead she was talking about a trip for the whole grade that lynn hadn't heard anything of before, so either it had never been mentioned before or she had been sleeping when they talked about it last. her guess was the last option.

she couldn't quite catch where or why they were going, her mind being too occupied with thoughts about where zaria could possibly be. she was probably at home in her pjs, watching some show on her computer being grateful she didn't show up to school.

lynn wasn't that far away from what she was actually doing. zaria knew even before getting out of bed that morning that she wasn't going to be able to make it through a day of school, so she did what anyone would do; faked being nauseous.

it wasn't very hard to convince her mom that she wasn't feeling well. ever since she was 9 she had been struggling with stomach issues, so when they were told it wasn't anything serious, all she had to do was to say her stomach hurt and then she got to skip school.

instead of watching a show, she was scrolling through netflix for the 50th time that day in hopes of finding something new to watch, knowing very well she was just going to end up rewatching one of the shows she had watched a million times before after giving up when the other things she tried watching didn't get to the plot after 2 minutes.

the notification sound rang twice through her ears just as she was about to fall asleep, waking her up. she was expecting jemma or maybe gigi to be the one texting her, but instead it was one of the people she least expected it to be.

but are you going?

zaria

hello??

her stomach twisted instantly when she saw the message. there was nothing she hated more than sleepovers, let alone school trips. as much as she hated being home, there was no place she loved more than her room, her bed especially. she felt an unease every time she thought about sleeping in a bed that wasn't her own.

zaria was already running down the stairs to ask her mom about it. she sat by the kitchen table, looking very focused on the screen in her hand.

"are you feeling ok?" she asked, it sounding like it was more care than hassle in her voice for once. too bad she was about to ruin it.

"what's that school trip thing about?" zaria questioned, asking as if she didn't believe lynn's words. "i don't know, your teachers talked about a museum i believe" the expression on her face was hard to read, but zaria continued to ask anyway. "why didn't i know?"

"i don't know, haven't they said anything?" zaria was unsure about that because in all honesty, she hadn't been paying a lot of attention in class lately, but that wasn't really the point. "do i need to go?" her whole body ached for her mom to say she didn't, but yet again luck wasn't on her side. "of course you do"

"please mom, i really don't want to" the desperation in her voice made her sound stupid in her head, but there were so many things she would do to be able to stay home. "zaria, this isn't up for discussion, you're going" her mom said with a straight face, zaria's blank eyes not making her more sympathic. "you're being dramatic, it's only a weekend"

"a weekend!?" to zaria the weekends were the only good thing happening lately, so spending time with the people she'd rather not see more than needed throughout the week was really not it. it was a punishment.
