'how long could we be a sad song?'

there was no worse feeling than a heavy heart. zaria knew all about it and she hated it more than anything. she always acted salty to people who had nothing to do with her bad mood and the guilt after never failed to make it worse.

she shut down every time and always ended up hurting someone, but now she was the one hurting and she felt sick to her stomach.

out of the few subjects she enjoyed, english was her favorite, but the hour had never felt as long as it did today. all she wanted was for the bell to ring so she didn't have to hold back the tears that were pushing to escape her eyes.

she felt as if everyone were looking at her as she walked through the halls on her way out. through the glass door she could see the concrete had gotten a darker gray color from the rain.

the cold air hit her face, making her thoughts about nick disappear for a split second. the sky was still gray and the wind blew right through her sweater, but she didn't care. it was beautiful.

people had told her before that she finds beauty in the stangest things, but how could you not love the rain? the feeling of cold waterdrops brushing against her skin healed her in a way no person ever could. it was comforting.

she didn't like showing emotion in front others. over the years she had put on a shell that only had grown thicker and very few people were allowed in. now there was a huge crack in it. just like throwing rocks at a window, you knew it would break eventually.

the tears started threatening to spill again, but she didn't bother to hold them back any longer. once the intro of 'fade into you' started playing, mascara had found home under her eyes. her mom always told her 'sad music makes things worse', but that was exactly why she did it. she wanted to feel it.

fade into you wasn't really a sad song either, it just felt empty. like the hug you give someone when you know you're not going to see them for a long time.

she felt the water from the wet grass soak her socks as she walked over the lawn to one of the benches that stood on it.

she felt the second she sat down that the wooden planks felt cold even through her clothes and the water that rested on it probably showed on her jeans now.

her breath was steady despite the warm salt drops that fell from her eyes every now and then.  almost no one were out and the only people that were to be seen were the students on their way home from school.
