˖𓍯ꕤ*. - THE CLUB ! -
my friends all looked back and forth between me and Bk with knowingly looks before glaring at me with tilted heads. Karrah who sat next to Gio was staring holes into the side of her face and her and Bk talked back and forth.
"i just wanted to talk," Gio eyed me from the corner of her eye without moving her head, before looking back at Bk. "we're all good here." she pointed to the space between me and her. "i think that we could be all good here too, yeah?"
"yeah," Bk nods her head consciously, her eyes leaving Gio and focusing only at me, not daring to look at anyone else.
shit.
i shook my head, trying to speak with her with my eyes but that only gained that attention of eveyone at the table. "what is that?" Karrah voiced, glaring at me and Bk. "what yall got going on?" she leaned forward, removing her arm from around Kali who tried to grab it.
i shifted in my seat, glancing at Aiysha who was next to me. "nothing, what are you talking about?" i huffed, i returned my stare to Bk and then to Gio who watched the whole interaction with low eyes.
"yeah," she slowly said, backing away from Bk. "what is that?" she frowned, her mouth slightly opening as she tried to make sense of our secret looks.
Bk sighed, "look, Gio i'm sorry for what went down between all of us. you were my homegirl but...Imani-" i kicked her underneath the table, shaking my head at her.
"Imani," Aiysha leaned up from her boyfriend and placed a hand on my arm, silently telling me to let this play out and i closed my eyes tightly.
Gio and i just got back on good terms and to be honest, i liked those terms and i didn't want this to be ruined all over again.
this is such a mess.
"yeah, Imani...let her talk." Gio raised her eyebrows before leaning closer to Bk. "go ahead." she ran her tongue across her lower lips, her piercing sticking out.
"Imani and i have been seeing each other." she voiced, sitting up straighter as though she was very confident about it which is good for her but...
with the music blasting in the background, it still felt as silent as ever as everyone paused watching as Gio's eyes never moved from Bk with a small nod.
"what did i expect, huh?" she chuckled dryly. "it's not like we're together, we never were." she turned her darkened eyes to me as it hardened the longer it looked into my guilty eyes. "i'm happy for you really, both of you."
Bk slide out of the booth as though she knew that Gio was looking for a way to exit without saying so and as soon as Bk left the booth, so did Gio with Karrah following her but not before giving me the same hard eyes that her friend did.
i sighed, placing my elbows on the table and my head falling into my hands. "Mani, i had to tell her." Bk whispered as she pushed into my side of the booth, rubbing her hands down my back.
"i know," i leaned into her. "maybe i should talk to her." i lifted up from Bk, pushing against her so that she would get out of the booth and she did, me following.
"wait, Imani." Kali slide out of the booth to stand next to me. "do you think that's a good idea? i mean, how many times do you think that she's just gonna..." Kali trailed off cutting her eyes over to Bk. "Imani." she repeated.
i sighed, "this is a mess. this is my mess so let me fix it." i looked back at Bk and Kali as well as the rest of my friends before walking towards the exit that Gio went out of, leaving Bk behind with my friends and my friends behind with the knowing the i lied to them.
"Gio!" i steadily walked towards Karrah, hoping that Gio was with her, but it didn't look like she was.
Karrah exhaled and looked off to the side of her before back at me. "Imani, why can't you just let her go." she stated roughly.
i stopped in front of her, with my hands on my hips. "where did she go?" i stated with the same roughness back at her. "i get it, i've screwed everything up but let me fix this for the last time and if she doesn't want to hear it then i'll leave it alone."
Karrah's jaw clenched as her brows farrowed. "okay, she's on her way back to her apartment."
"thank you," i walked back into the club and to my section, noticing that Bk was still there having a conversation with my friends who were hanging onto every word that she was speaking.
when i stopped in front of the booth, they glanced at me with disbelief. "i can't believe you didn't tell us." Amari voiced softly, stepping out of the booth. "we wouldn't have judged, we wouldn't have snitched, we would've been there. we're your friends." Amari said, stopping in front of me as he stared down at me.
"yeah, we're not upset with you, Imani." Aiysha stood next to Amari. "we're just disappointed." she sighed, holding onto Amari's arm.
Kali held onto mine. "if you're happy we're happy." she smiled.
i smiled back, feeling incredibly grateful for my friends. "best birthday ever." i sarcastically said and they chuckled pulling me into a hug.
"did you catch her?" Bk asked and i turned my attention to her. "no but i'm gonna go talk to her, if that's okay with you of course." i fidgeted with my hands.
"yeah, why wouldn't it be?" she frowned at me as if i was asking the stupidest question ever. i jerked my head back slightly, "okay nevermind. just came to get my purse and ima get an uber."
"i can drive you," Bk voiced. "i'm sober."
i sighed, smiling at her. "thanks."
-----
"Gio," i knocked on her door for the second time. "let's just talk." i knocked again and this time the door swung open.
"what?" she gritted out, staring down at me as i shifted back a bit shocked that she actually opened the door.
"i'm sorry," i instantly said.
she scoffed, "why are you apologizing? if anything i should be apologizing because i have no right to be mad. we aren't together and i honestly still think that we're...civil. what you got going on in your life has nothing to do with me."
"yeah, but-"
she shook her head, "no," she sharply cut me off. "i promise were good. we always will be." she softly said, giving me one last look before she shut the door in my face.
i don't know why, but it brought some sort of relief to me.
