Not all love stories had happy endings. I learned that the hard way. Sometimes, it is the ones you loved the most that hurt you the most, and the person you trusted the most was the one who shattered your heart into pieces, you weren't even sure how to put yourself back together.
The past few days had been the worst of my life, but as I walked through the school doors that morning, I felt... different. Lighter, maybe. I wasn't exactly okay, but I wasn't going to give anyone the satisfaction of seeing me broken.
The hallway rumbled with the usual noise, but I could feel the stares. People were watching me, whispering as I passed by.
That's her.
What a joke.
She must feel so stupid now.
I didn't let their words get to me. I only kept my head high and my face straight. I really wasn't interested in what anyone had to say about me. I just wanted to get over everything and I would do just that.
I kept walking and before I could open my locker, my eyes fell on Kent.
He looked awfully pale. His gold hair was not in place like it used, his eyes were tired, his usual confidence was nowhere to be found. He looked like he hadn't slept in weeks and I almost felt sorry for him. But then I realized that the only thing I felt for the jerk who tore my heart apart was nothing. Absolutely nothing.
When his eyes met mine, he froze. His expression shifted, almost like he felt relief and then he started walking toward me.
"Alex" he called with a soft voice.
I ignored him like I had never met him before.
"Alex..." he said again.
I slammed my locker shut, hoping the sound would drown him out.
"Can we talk? Please" he begged, blocking my path.
I stared at him with a straight face. "No."
"Just listen to me" he said, desperation creeping into his voice. "I just need a chance to explain..."
"I don't care about your explanations..." I cut him off, stepping around him.
Before I could get far, he grabbed my wrist.
"Don't touch me" I snapped, yanking my arm free.
"It's not what you think..." he said quickly, his eyes pleading.
I let out a bitter laugh, shaking my head. "Really? It's not what I think? Do you even hear yourself right now?"
"It's the truth" he insisted, his voice breaking slightly. "I made a mistake. I wasn't thinking—"
"You weren't thinking?" I interrupted, my anger rising. "That's your excuse for cheating on me with your ex girlfriend? That you... weren't thinking?"
He looked down at the floor, like he was ashamed, but I wasn't about to feel sorry for him. Not anymore.
"You know I love you and I would never purposely do anything to hurt you" he said softly, his voice barely audible. "Please, just give me a chance to make this right. Please..." He said pleadingly and before I could respond, he leaned in, trying to kiss me.
I jolted back so fast that I nearly tripped, my heart pounding with anger.
"Are you insane?" I questioned with rage. "How dare you try to kiss me..."
He looked at me, stunned, like he couldn't believe I was the one talking.
"Stay away from me" I said, my voice sharp and steady. "I don't care what you have to say. I don't care for your stupid explanations. Just stay the h*ll away from me, Kent. I mean it."
