Mila

I keep lying.

Vadim standing to the left of me while we surveyed the others as they practiced combat magic. Fairies and Elves integrated together, using each other's knowledge and magic, it was surprisingly easier than I anticipated. Especially in wolf territory, even if it was unbearably scorching hot.

And even if I keep lying.

A group of Elves moving behind us on the path to the spring, where we've insisted on security. Beau has been less than kind of me after finding out that I lied. Vadim the same.

I was just trying to do the right thing.

"The right thing would have been telling us the truth from the start." Vadim cuts in on my train of thought and I huff, dragging a hand across my forehead wiping away the beads of sweat.

"Is it too much to ask for a little privacy." I grumble. And maybe a cool breeze?

"You get nothing. You left a perfect reserve of magic for a megalomaniac to use up." His tone snide.

"Except he's incapable of actually using the magic. He's a wolf." I deflect.

"We both know that argument is no longer valid." His uncanny green eyes snapping to mine while his blue tinted ears turned pink from the heat of the sun. "He kidnapped a witch to try and use it for him."

"A witch is a witch but she's not a fairy or an elf. They only have so much room for that type of magic. She'll most likely die or be consumed from-"

"And that's a better option?" Vadim steps closer to me. His whole body now facing me as an incredulous look slips onto his face, his blue tinted cheeks slightly pink from the sun. "Letting a witch die because you fucked up? Our alliance with the Covens are already on hollow ground, they're only barely trusting us and now this?"

"I don't know what you want me to say Vadim!" I whisper heatedly. "I thought....I thought I did enough. I thought....I don't know."

"That's the problem. You're flying by the seat of your pants, and that's not good enough. Not for them, not for the witch enslaved to that fucker, and not for our people. It's not fair."

"So what do you want me to do?"

"You're stepping down from all decisions involving the battle against Harald, anything to do with the people-"

"What!" I shout unable to control my reaction.

"Anything involving the magical fucking hotspring too," Vadim continues.

"Vadim!"

"You lied!" He shouts shocking me into a stunned silence. "You moved the well, lied about where you moved it, that resulted in one fairy being killed for her magic, the other being disfigured, a witch a captive and who knows what else he's doing to her, never mind the fucking work camps running out of our own home, you've fucked up CONTINUOUSLY!" He says and I shake my head.

"No...I don't...I didn't mean to..."

He's right.

I keep messing up.

I keep messing up and other people keep paying for it.

"What are you going to do now?" His question is simple but the weight of it crushes me like a mountain.

"I don't know."

Beau

"Alright I don't know how a bunch of elves are going to feel about a suburbia but they'll find a way to make it all whimsical and shit, fairies are good at that sort of thing." Cassie says through a mouthful of chocolate chip cookies as MaryAnne sipped on her tea looking over the blueprints for a possible school for the Elves and Fairies.
